Are those new teeth whitening strips really safe? How do they work? How frequently can you use them?

The August 2001 issue of my seventeen magazine says

Strips: Clear, peroxide-coated strips of plastic that stick to your teeth.
Duration: Two weeks, twice a day for 30 minutes.
Cost: $44 for a box (two-week supply).
Pros: Unlike trays, strips will not get in your way when you’re talking - they stick directly to your teeth.
Cons: Strips cover only your six front teeth, leaving the rest of them untreated.
