I’m going to get a new PC game tomorrow. I saw Dead Space and Saints Row 2 today, each for $40. I’m definitely going to get one tomorrow, possibly both. So if you have either of them, tell me about it.
Is either of them 3rd person? Do you need a gamepad type controller for Saints Row 2, or is it okay with just a keyboard and mouse? How closely does Saints Row resemble the Grand Theft Auto series (I generally liked that series, but haven’t played GTA 4 due to the horrible press it’s been getting). Is Dead Space primarily a shooter, or more of an adventure/horror thing?
I can’t help you with Saint’s Row. All I know about it is based on reviews and what I’ve heard which essentially boils down to a silly, but fun game. A GTA IV that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and obviously with a lower budget.
I didn’t get too far on deadspace until I started playing left 4 dead, but I plan on getting back to it soon. What I did play was fun, and super scary, at least in the Doom 3 type of way, if you know what I mean ( lots of monsters popping up behind you, lights go out at innoportune moments, etc). The story is told in a similar way to Bioshock. You pick up recordings which hint at what happened on the ship… and what is currently happening with your crew mates.
What I played was fun and I screamed out loud at least twice.
Are the monsters in Dead Space fast and hard to hit like Bioshock? I have Bioshock but didn’t get too far into it because everything moves too fast for me to target.
Killing monsters in Deadspace is one the most rewarding experiences in recent game history…tactical dismemberment they call it
I love Deadspace…the sounds( or lack of them in vacuum) it has a fully integrated HUD, cool weapons…lots of really scary moments…a more then decent story
Yes I meant the PC version. I really wanted to play it, but the installation issues, game crashing bugs, and people still having problems post-patch turned me right off it.
Dead Space sounds good though, I might check that out.
Funny you should mention Saints Row 2. My girlfriend bought it for me last weekend and she’s probably regretting it because I’ve been playing nothing else but that all week.
If you hate GTA and those type of games, you’ll hate this one also, but as said above, it’s pretty much a clone of Grand Theft Auto, except not only did they put more emphasis on creating the mayhem that you love in Grand Theft Auto, they now reward you for it.
Here are just some of the minigames: Demolition derby, Streaking, Flashing, Ho-ing, Hostage Taking, Drug Trafficking, Mayhem (where you destroy stuff), Septic Avenger (Where you ride in a septic truck and spray crap everywhere) etc. It’s just a fun game. I am enjoying it greatly.
It’s all the fun parts of Grand Theft Auto.
P.S. You can customize the crap out of your character. Buy him close, make him look however you want, give him a cockney accent…
P.P.S. My favorite part is you can grab people and use them as a human shield. When you’re done with them you can shoot them with a single bullet.
Thanks for starting this thread. I wanted to get Saints Row 2 for PC myself, but after hearing about all the technical problems it was having I wanted to wait until those were resolved. Too bad, because it sounds like exactly the kind of game I want.
Ok, checked some reviews of Saints Row 2 for the PC, and every one of them is complaining about the choppy framerate, pop up buildings and vehicles, poor controls, etc. A few people have even said they can run GTA 4 with relatively few problems but not SR2. So it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting this soon.
Wonder when there’ll be a 2nd patch for GTA IV and if it will address a lot of the issues people are having with it?
