A friend and I are going to Gothenburg mid August. I’ve been looking stuff up, but I’m curious if any dopers have any ideas for stuff to do. I know @Charlie_Tan is from that part of the world, though he doesn’t post here very much.
Funny thing is, the trip was my friend’s idea, though I am a huge metal head and she is not. She had no idea how important Gothenburg is to the history of that music. I’m not planning on seeing any shows but I would like to have a beer at The Abyss and a burger at the restaurant In Flames owns. She said she’d be down for that.
I think we might take a day trip to Copenhagen, if that’s doable.
Anyway if anyone has any ideas or tips, I’m all ears.
I can recommend the Maritime Museum. There’s ok train connections to Copenhagen, it’ll take you 3½-4 hours each way, to catch your breath maybe stay in Copenhagen overnight and return to Gothenburg next day. Or find somewhere closer for the day trip, Marstrand has a lot of picturesque old houses and Carlsten, an impressive 17. Century castle. It’s also overrun by (fellow) tourists at this time of the year. So is central Copenhagen, of course.
