Wondering what to do with myself, and a chunk of spare cash, in the week after Easter. For some reason, Norway has come into my head. Flying Norwich-Trondheim is far from unreasonable (and I bet it’s not a common routing ), so it’d be an easy trip for maybe four or five days. Anybody know this part of the world? If I were to rent a car, what’d be a good plan? Hotel in the city, or road trip with accomodation booked elsewhere? Any general suggestions or tips?
I can’t say anything specific about Trondheim, but I did notice this article a couple of days ago about Oslo:
Oslo is world’s most expensive city
So take lots of money.
Hence less than a week there! Don’t worry, I’m already braced for eye-watering expenses, even for someone hardened on London rip-offs and even Bermudian nonsense.
I’ve been to Trondheim. It’s a very pretty university town, although I don’t think there’s an awful lot to do there. I was for two weeks, but that was because of the International Student Festival they have there every two years. It’s an odd mix of peaceful residential areas and streets with crazy drunk college kids. You’d probably want to stay for a day or two, then head somewhere else. I was staying with a sponsor family during my time there, so I couldn’t tell you about accomodations or anything - sorry.
Norway in a Nutshell is a completely touristy trip by rail, ferry, and bus. It is however, the most popular tourist attraction for very good reasons. The train ride from Oslo to Bergen is awesome. The Flam Railway down to the fjord is unforgettable. Bergen is a cute little town in it’s own right, with a great tramway giving you an incredible view.
