Tell me about saliva gland blockages

I went to the doctor last week after my face swelled up under my left ear.

He gave me antibiotics for an ear infection, but after reading the entire internet, I have self diagnosed a blocked parotid gland. :wink:

The swelling has gone down a lot, but is still not completely clear. It swells up while eating, and especially is sensitive to sour/sweet foods.

I’ll contact my doctor again this week, and see what he recommends.

Tell me your anecdotes, if you have any experience with this condition.

I have had an infection partially block one, and it was painful. It prompted me to go to a doctor even though I did not have insurance. I had to take antibiotics for a while, but it got better quickly.

At least you have an infection to blame it on. For me the partial blockage was the first symptom, so my worry was partially about it being possibly caused by a tumor. I was relieved when I had other symptoms that pointed to an infection.
