Tell me about slippers

I wear slippers only to keep my feet warm in the winter. We do not wear shoes in the house to keep it clean. Spring/summer/fall, I’m barefooted or stockinged.

You & @Chefguy are no-class, imposter, wannabes! (Sebago Docksiders are the model of boat shoe to own, not those Sperry versions; though I’ll admit to owning some of their themed ones, including wrapped in ‘bloody’ tissue paper in the box) but boat shoes are meant to be worn outside. I can wear 'em when my feet get cold over just socks on a winter’s day, to run outside, including when it’s wet out, even to the store as they are ‘real’ shoes. Just slip on & off. Easy-peasy, no bending required.

SO never goes barefoot in the house, having stepped in too many ‘leavings’ on the floor from the four-legged furry ones over the years so she got me a pair slippers - ‘fur’-lined moccasin style. They are quick & easy to slip on to run my baby gurl out to the backyard to go but I wouldn’t wear them to take her for a walk & my feet feel sweaty after about 30 seconds in them. They’re almost new, not returnable but fairly inexpensive, but no, I don’t really like them. Give me my Docksiders, TYVM but I can’t justify a pair at my second residence.

So, why do you wear shoes in the house?

They’re also $65 cheaper, so I’ll stick with them. They last a long time, are comfortable, and they serve the purpose for which I buy them.

I used to just wear socks in the house, but that makes the socks wear out quickly, and then I got plantar fasciitis, which is not helped by walking about on hard surfaces unshod.

So I got me some Bob’s Skechers. They’re washable and they donate a small amount of each sale to Petco’s pet adoption program.

Traditional slippers and houseshoes make my feet too hot. I now tend to use Crocs. And, even then, I only use them when I’m actually walking around, as I’ve found my soles get sweaty if I keep them on while sitting still. If I could find some shoes that would let my soles breath, too, it would be nice.

Espadrilles for me year round, worn with thick socks in the winter.

I wear slippers in the house when it’s particularly cold. Especially if I’m doing dishes. Water inevitably splashes, and wet socks are uncomfortable. Slippers keep my socks from getting wet.

I also have one particular pair of slippers kept right outside my garage door that I only use for going outside. If I’m spending some time in the garage and I don’t want my socks dirty (or the hard concrete is cold) they are handy to put on. And I wear them when I take out the trash. I just took out the trash minutes ago and used them. They have a thick rubber sole, like a real shoe, so they’re great for that.
