I have no speech impediment as such (much to my releif) but I have slowly started to realize that my verbal articulation isn’t what it once was.
I have trouble forcing sound out of my mouth… mainly due to lack of confidence… and it takes the form of having to prepare to say somethiing otherwise I’ll slur it or get tongue twisted. It’s as if the pipes through which speech sound travells are too narrow… or as if there is something thicker than air blocking them that means I have to use exessive force to make sound and I end up feeling like I might be shouting at people when really I’m trying to force the sound out so that I am speaking clearly.
In contrast I feel utterly at ease with non-verbal communication. I am the most articulate emailer at work. So my ability to construct sentences is not the problem. Something about the dynamics of verbal communication makes it impossible to speak to what I believe is my potential.
So I was wondering about the possible speech therapy solutions there are to people like me out there… particularly people with few physical travel options but many electronic financial, and delivery options.
