Tell me about the SCP Foundation and name some of your favorites. NO SPOILERS please.

First of all, no spoilers, please. If you discuss any SCP that I have not yet gotten to (and that’s most of them), please have it under a spoiler tag.

So, I’ve been aware of this site for a long time. Much like Wikipedia and TVTropes and Reddit, I’ve long since heard that this is one of those “really addictive” sites that people can spend hours on.

I have looked it over here and there before, in the past, for a few minutes each…but only starting within the last week have I really given it full attention and started reading each entry, from the beginning. I plan to keep doing this, reading them in numerical order, and hope to read at least ten a day.

As of now, I am at SCP #33. So, for those of you who are well knowing of the SCP Foundation, you know that this is still at the very beginning. And for those of you who don’t know anything about it, it basically means I’ve read 33 entries so far, as each entry is given a number, starting from 1. Thus, I’m on number 33.

That’s 33 out of, right now, about 2,500. Yeah, I’ve hardly started to break the surface.

Anyway, the point of this topic and the discussion I was hoping for in it is this:
Without telling me anything about it other than its number and/or name, what are some of your favorite SCPs? Which ones do you think are the scariest? The weirdest? The creepiest? The most clever? Which are ones you think you’d LOVE to have for yourself? And which are some that you wouldn’t want to ever even get within a thousand feet of?
Remember, just name the names or numbers, don’t tell me what they are or why you feel this way, unless you put it under a spoiler…and then, when I finally get to that one, I will come back to this topic and read your spoiler and maybe even–quite possibly–reply.

Lastly, if you’re not familiar with the SCP Foundation, you can find it here.

There’s a really high signal-to-noise ratio on that site. When I trawled through it some time ago, I just sorted the entire list by popularity and worked my way down from the top until the quality started dropping dramatically.

Anyway, there’s one particular tale that I found really creepy. I was able to find it again with a little Googling. It’s SCP-1733.

So, yeah, let me know when you get there a few months from now? Or, if you ever take my advice and sort by popularity, it’s pretty close to the top.

The second most popular one is hilarious. I’d recommend taking a look. It’s quite short.

Protip: don’t forget to look for collapsible timelines and links and stuff in the entries.

073 begins a biblical story arc that gets picked up and added to over time.

I’m fond of SCP 001-EX-j (which purports to be the very first SCP item) for a laugh, but it won’t make sense unless you’re already well familiar with the style.

As the Keter objects go, SCP 871 is terrifying, but in its own offball way.

I like that one!

I’m one of the most prolific writers on the site, so allow me to take this opportunity to plug my own work.

First off, don’t feel obligated to read the main series in numerical order. Authors pick a number at random that hasn’t been used yet. The ones in Series 1 (002-999) are mostly the oldest ones, but if one of the old ones gets down voted and deleted, anyone can put a new article in its place.

Also keep in mind that there’s not much consistency from article to article - “there is no canon” is a popular bit of advice given to writers. Lots of authors have different interpretations of a lot of things,.

1529, 1958, and 1845 are articles of mine that I’m pretty proud of; they’re about a creature that lives on Mt. Everest, a VW bus that a group of beatniks converted into a spaceship, and a tribe of sapient Catholic animals respectively. I also wrote a lot of the “Lord Blackwood” stories, which are pulp action pastiches about a 19th century gentleman adventurer and his encounters with various SCP objects.

093 is probably my favorite of all time, and there’s one about Tupac Shakur (written by Max Landis, of all people) that’s pretty good.

SCP-093 may be the very first one that I read and it’s still among my favourites, along with SCP-087, SCP-682 and SCP-701.

Great site by the way.

SCP-294 is one of my favorites, not due to being creepy or anything, but because I like to imagine all the things I’d do with such a machine. “Surprise me” not being one of them, however.

Thiirding SCP-093 as my favourite, too.

Also, outside the SCPs themselves, I like the Antarctic Exchange canon.

Oh, and SCP-231 is the worst. Just — the worst.

Since you brought up the sub-canons, I’d like to toot my own horn again and mention “Doctors of the Church”, the one I created. It’s a “Canticle for Leibowitz” type post-apocalyptic setting, where the Foundation exists as a church that reveres Dr. Jack Bright (a former Foundation researcher whose consciousness was accidentally transferred into an SCP object amulet, who can take control of the body of whoever’s wearing said amulet) as a god.

Haven’t been on there in a while so I don’t recall the specific SCPs I like, but I enjoy the site thoroughly. I also like the rival organizations that come up every now and again, especially “Are we cool yet?”.

Oooh, I love that one, one of the best SCPs ever. Great writing!

It’s a little gimmicky, but I’m a big fan of SCP-2521. The whole thing is done solely as a pictograph warning sheet, like an expanded MSDS sheet that you’d see in a chemistry lab.

This reminds me, I really ought to get back on the ones I’ve been intending to write.
