Is that based on the book?

I guess, I’ve never read the book.

I watched Sunshine the other night. It’s not a bad little sci-fi movie about a team of astronauts sent to detonate a bomb inside the dying sun to re-ignite it. The astronauts are an improbable mix of people, as usual, but the movie had a nice look to it and pretty neat special effects. The whole thing takes place in space, near the end of the mission, and the only shot on earth comes at the very end.

It would have been better without the horror/supernatural element they threw in. And why would you name a ship that you were sending on this mission Icarus? And when that one disappears, why would you name the second one Icarus II? Seems pretty pessimistic.

**Paris Is Burning ** - A documentary about the 1987 gay subculture in New York interested in ‘Vogueing’. The film is less about the dancing and more about the psychology and sociology of an abused and marginalized group. It was pretty good.

Aguirre: The Wrath of God - A bit strange to watch a movie about Spaniards speaking German only to be subtitled in English, but all in all it was well worth watching. On the list of lead characters who descend into madness Aguirre would have to make the shortest trip. What I haven’t really figured out is…

what was the deal with all those monkeys on the raft at the end.

Once Upon a Time in China - As all Kung Fu movies go it’s plot was characteristically light, but it stands firm where it must, the fight scenes. If you love martial arts movies this is a requirement, if you don’t you can well give this a pass.
