Tell me some good news

No flesh-eating zombies yet this morning!

2 days (and counting) without a reportable demon attack.

My brother has bought a villa in Majorca…

Free hols for the chowder clan

I finally got RoadRunner yesterday. Sweeeeeet.

I might make an exception for Bobby. Yesterday I opened the door and yelled “Get out of my garden!” and he stamped his little hooves at me and continued munching. Cute little twerp stripped my dwarf fruit trees, too. I may not eat him… but if I can catch him I will spank his little white bottom.

How is the cat hair situation? It has been about 12 hours; I would bet you are about code yellow by now.

Last week, I was shopping at Value Village (a thrift store) for new (to me, at least) clothing when a woman walked up to me and gave me her coupon for five dollars off at the register. If she is reading this, thank you very much!

I love the Random Stranger Coupon Exchange! I always leave baby food and diaper coupons in plain sight on the kiddie aisle.

If you are in the States, this is my favorite time of year to ride. Congratulations!

That is wonderful. Can you share pictures?

My roommates are moving out at the end of the month. I’ll have my house to myself again! Yay! Also, I’ll be able to throw a Birthday party for myself, at my own house. I couldn’t do this before because my friends that were living here had two small children.
Oh, they have good news too. They just found a house in a nice nieghborhood that they can afford. Hence, they’re out of my house.

Plymouth? Or the high-speed connection?

I heard from CafePress that my new bumper stickers have been shipped!

Also, I have training Monday through Wednesday next week (fills the day with no other work) and then I’m on vacation for 1.5 weeks!

It’s my birthday! I’m 25. Actually, I’m not sure if my birthdays are good news any more. Hmm.

I had a good time at my book club last night, though. That’s unequivocally good!

My son got a job.

Employment/new hiring in the tech sector is up quite a bit. Given how many of our Dopers are tech geeks, this should be good news for a lot of folks here. Good luck, job hunting Dopers!

Heh, the high-speed connection. Been having troubles with Verizon (curses) for three weeks now. Bastards. So we finally switched.

Did you know … some species of turtle are remarkably resistant to centrifugal force, and can reach upwards of 5000 rpm before their wee little flippers fall off? cite

Anaamika, that’s probably a good choice (at least unless gas prices go way down).

I cleaned my desk at work and now have 8,000 post-its. Yay post-its!

Barbaro is still making progress.

The Solar-B astronomical satellite was launched successfully last Friday. I wasn’t directly involved, but helped them out a little. (My grad school advisor was in charge of developing the main instrument.)

The Ivory Billed Woodpecker, previously thought to be extinct, has been spotted recently (though there is still no photographic evidence).

Our newest kitty is fully acclimated to the house and the three other cats now. Her fur is almost completely grown back from having been spayed. She is friends now with the cat who initially resisted her the most. We’re glad we rescued her.

The spring ratings are in, and the station where I work is #1. The last book was our highest numbers, ever. Some of that is due to my contributions.

It’s finally cooled off! You can go outside without breaking a sweat. As a Canadian, I am not used to looking forward to winter, but a lot of us down here are relieved that it’s not 98 degrees with 80% humidity anymore.

That’s the one in Arkansas, right? You wouldn’t believe the hoopla around that…hotels all booked up, festivals, it was nuts.

Hmm. I have personal good news.

The owners of the duplex we checked out during an open house, in a beautiful neighbourhood that we normally couldn’t afford, have contacted us and told us we got the place. They are doing the credit/background check stuff now, and we know that’s going to turn out fine, and they’ve alreayd been in contact with us to let us know when we can move in, our new address, etc.

I just got a full dollar raise at work. I had my first review, and I was supposed to get a $0.50 raise, but since my boss and manager believe I am doing so well, we skipped the $0.50 and went for the $1. She’s also going to hire me to maintain our website. The store also just had its first million dollar year, and we’re looking into profit-sharing. So there could be, in the future, much more than just $1 raise on the horizon for us all. Either way, I’m happy with what I’m making now.

My husband bought me a RAZR last night. It’s pink. That’s okay, I like pink. It works out, because I look like the anti-pink, but then I have this pink phone. You know? It would be like God and Satan going out for dinner. They just cancel each other out. Who’s being influenced, here? God? Satan? Nobody. They’re just two dudes, going out for dinner, cancelling each other out. Neutral.

looks curiously at the half-eaten brownie I got from a co-worker

So, got the new place, got a raise, got a new phone. Oh, and I cleaned the fishtank. So the fish are happy.

Yesterday I finished two major projects at work. After three weeks of stress, working late, and working on the weekends everything fell into place. And during all of this my boss promised me a big raise when it all came together. So, yay me!

And it’s my birthday on Thursday. All of my co-workers are taking me out after work.
