Tell me what you know about Delta-8 THC

Louisiana is quickly opening up the marijuana market. Still only for only medical use, but any doctor can prescribe it now and in any form. Now we have Marijuana shops that are popping up and legal that are selling Delta-8 THC. From what I’ve read, it’s not as potent as Delta-9 THC, which is what most people are smoking, but does get you high. Anyone have experience with it? It comes in all forms here.

I don’t and wouldn’t use any form of dope.

But I know someone who does and they told me about their experiences with Delta-8.

She said the high is much lighter than regular weed regardless of how much you smoke and a regular weed smoker may not be satisfied with it. She also said the high only lasts about 90 minutes when smoked.

As for gummies my acquaintance said regular THC gummies never had any affect on her regardless of what dose she took. But the Delta-8 did. Took about 2 hours to kick in and she still felt it a bit 12 hours later. She couldn’t compare it with regular gummies as, like she said, they never had an effect on her. This may be because of how it is processed in the liver.

It appears that it is legal under federal law and the law of several states. My research leads me to believe that it is legal here (Wisconsin) but a while back a smoke shop was raided that was selling it. Will have to wait and see how that case turns out. I also have heard of people getting cited for possession of it. A field narco-pouch test only confirms THC, not what form (AFAIK). I am sure there will be more developments on these cases.

With weed being legal just south of here I am surprised I haven’t been coming across more people with it on my traffic stops.

Thanks for your response. Your friend’s experience seems to jive with all I’ve read.

If your italics are insinuating something, I assure you it’s not me. It’s a relative who had major surgery but was refused any pain meds afterwards. They went down to the flatlands and got some pot gummies but they allegedly had no effect.

I’ve been asking about the status of Delta-8 at work and am met with deer in headlights looks. I was recently told that if something tests positive in the field write the cite or make the arrest and let the crime lab determine what strand of THC it is. I read something that said the state legislative council confirmed it’s legality. But unless there is a field test to differentiate the different strands things could get tricky.

My apologies to you.

Pot has been largely decriminalized here in Louisiana in the major cities. It still would suck to get fined for something that is legal because the cop doesn’t know the difference between Delta 8 and 9. This all sounds so intriguing to an old fart (such as myself) who hasn’t participated in 35 years or so. Possible easing back in.

I’ve used it.

I don’t have enough experience with actual weed to compare it. the issue is with actual weed when I smoke I either feel nothing or smoke too much and have a panic attack.

I had the same experience with delta 8. either nothing happens or I get a panic attack when smoking. people who say delta 8 doesn’t cause anxiety are lying. I started hallucinating my eyes were melting when I smoked too much.

What I like about delta 8 which is legal in my state is edibles and tinctures are measured down to the mg. delta 8 edibles and tinctures are much better. a low dose of 10mg is usually all it takes for me which is kind of a problem since so many edibles for delta 8 are measured in 25 or 50mg doses.

I can’t compare it to delta 9 weed because I’ve never done anything but smoke that, but delta 8 edibles and tinctures can be really nice but the experiences are hit or miss.

delta 8 will cause a positive on a drug test though, but I’ve heard if you request a GCMS then you can prove it was legal delta 8 and not delta 9.

I smoke the real deal (legally in Pennsylvania’s med program). Friends who have tried the Delta-8 smoke it in between bowls/joints of real stuff to stretch their weed. I don’t know anyone who “prefers” it.

I’ve been enjoying delta 8 for months now. For me, it packs a buzz similar to the real thing.
The first couple times i tried it, it was an exciting experience, as it was a novel feeling. It just feels like mid-grade weed to me now.

I do have a vape cartridge of delta 8, but i rarely use it. Vape cartridges of any kind always leave me feeling like i did something ucky. The gummies seem to be the better value.
Be careful, those gummies can creep up on you, last half a day, and are inconsistent. Sometimes one does very little, other times, one can be too much.

Curiously, it’s not legal in Colorado.

You realize the posts on Delta 9 will end up in a data base that is analyzed in https://www.palantir.com/information-security/#compliance-and-accreditation your words, your thoughts will be sold to insurance companies, that means healthcare, car insurance, health insurance, credit databases.

It could happen again. It is social control and surveillance.

"The researchers compared the patterns of Google search activity related to the Black Lives Matter movement using Google AdWords and the Major Cities Chiefs Police Association data on violent crimes reports. Gross and Mann ([2017])(Searching for safety: crime prevention in the era of Google | Crime Science | Full Text)) found that in U.S. cities where violent crime increased, there were increases in Google searches related to police violence. Search rates were higher in cities with greater representations of minorities and youth, and in areas with intensive policing strategies (Gross and Mann 2017). Search volume rates peaked in high profile events such as the police-involved shootings of Eric Garner and Freddie Gray.
In closing, we wish to point out that like all powerful technologies, Google queries have the potential for creating societal harm as well as societal good. While our research documented certain beneficial aspects of Google queries for property crime prevention, it is certainly obvious that the capacity of the Internet is allowing the creation of new forms of criminal behavior, such as cyber-crime (e.g., terrorism, bullying, fraud) as well as the expansion of underground criminal networks. Given the pace of technological development, it is likely that the utilization of novel forms of human-generated data, such as Google, will become an important source of information for crime science.

So they’re going to use it against me because I posted that I don’t and wouldn’t use dope?

Heh. I have my PA Medical Marijuana Card. Database, smatabase.

Here’s another anecdote:

If you partake in cannabis, delta-8 sucks. If you get a high, it’s fleeting. It doesn’t have the same earthy/fruity taste. It doesn’t look quite the same, either; it looks like weed that was poorly cured. It’s darker than usual and lacking any crystals.

Would not recommend.

@kayaker Quis custodiet ipsos custodes, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes.

Spoiler Alert

The phrase dates back to the 1st/2nd century Roman poet Juvenal, who wrote satires about tyrannical governments, oppressive dictatorships and law enforcement corruption. The original phrase is “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes” in Latin, which literally translates to “Who will guard the guards themselves”?

I couldn’t resist!

Pass to your left.

God, I hope no one stashes it in the spice cabinet with the oregano, the pasta sauce would be ruined.

My apology for late reply.

No PK, to answer your question it would take me forever to answer in a cogent but brief reply.

Do you think anyone really cares if you use a legal drug, or if you use a drug that may be illegal in your state but is legal in a dozen others, and decriminalized in many others?

I understand people like pkbites have vocations where drug use can disqualify you, but for most other people does anyone really care? It was my understanding that at this point, even law enforcement really doesn’t care about recreational marijuana usage among the public.

This thread is about Delta-8 THC, not about vaccine laws and privacy. If you want to discuss other issues like these, feel free, but not in this thread. Start a new thread on the topic.

Delta-8 THC is just a marketing ploy to sell low grade pot. Tons and tons of leaves and tops go to waste. Much of it is high grade but not saleable because it doesn’t look pretty.

I am very skeptical that current testing for pot can tell the difference. It is still the wild, wild, west out there as far as oversight and label regulations.
