Temple of the Dog Reunion?

I heard a rumor on the radio that Temple of the Dog might be getting back together. This would rock! Anyone know anything? [slobber, pant]

Wasn’t TOTD just a version of Pearl Jam with two guys from Soundgarden on vox & drums? I guess Matt Cameron & Chris Cornell aren’t doing much these days, but P.J. is still going strong, AFAIK. Unless this is some sort of publicity-seeking one-off project, I highly doubt it will happen.

And that’d be different than the first time around, how? Great song (ok, there were 2 songs that got radio play, but one sank like a stone) but boy, that didn’t go anywhere much.

Actually, Matt is PJ’s drummer now, and Chris has Audioslave.

And I agree another TOTD album would be pretty cool.

Quite different, in fact. The TOTD album was a tribute to Andrew White, the lead singer of Mother Love Bone who died (suicide? overdose? I forget how…) Jeff Ament & Stone Gossard were former MLB members who formed the nucleus of Pearl Jam, along with Vedder & McCready who joined them in Temple. “Hunger Strike” didn’t become a hit until long after Pearl Jam had formed and started making hits of their own (“Alive”, “Jeremy”, etc.)

I loved Temple of the Dog. “Wooden Jesus,” “Say Hello to Heaven,” etc. IMO, it was the best thing Eddie Vedder ever put his two cents into.

Chris Cornell is awesome no matter what, but I would love to see them all come together again.

Andrew Wood.

This would be great since the TotD album is one of my all time faves, but this may only be rumor that got going because Cornell recently joined P.J. (who hasn’t recorded a worthwhile album since “Vs.” IMHO) onstage for one show to perform one track from the album.

Personally they could relegate Vedder to backing vox and put Cornell up there in front for ever as far as I am concerned. Cornell is bar none the most talented singer/songwriter in rock music today.

If they make another album, I would buy it. I’m a huge fan of Stone’s (earlier) work and the first collection in one of my favorite CDs. Its in heavy rotation out in the shop, where I can play things very loud. “Reach Down” and “Times of Trouble” are simply awsome recordings.

If you like TotD, seek out the work of Mother Love Bone, featuring Andy on vocals. Pretty good stuff. They have a song called “Half-Assed Monkey Boy”! You know thats got be good, right there.

My friends and I used to call them Temple of the Dong.

There have been instances where all members of the band were on stage at the same time recently and played Temple tunes. Chris Cornell sang with Pearl Jam once or twice on their last tour, I know they played Say Hello to Heaven but I’m not sure what else if anything.

Since he died of an overdose, perhaps the new TotD will be a tribute to Layne Staley or something.

Or maybe it’s just more crass nostalgia-hounding.

Dunno.
