Tenant may remain The Doctor

Like Sylvester McCoy? That did it for me. I’d long since ceased being a full-on fan, but he made sure I never bothered, even if it was on and I was bored.

Eccleston and Tennant have both been great in the role and perhaps it was a good intro (for new fans) into the whole regeneration theme when Eccleston left.

Yea - if they sat down and thought, how can we break the fingers of the last remaining die-hards so we can cancel this thing he’s the guy you’d have chosen. Colin Baker did it for me though.

Really? I rather liked McCoy, I felt that he was let down by bad scripts in his first two seasons, let’s not even mention the Kandyman, but his last season was fantastic,

Remembrance of the Daleks, Silver Nemesis , Curse of Fenric and Survival were all, IMHO, really great stories. Although the plots of Remembrance and Nemesis were very similar i.e. Alien race messes with Time Lord tech and comes a cropper. Which kind of makes you wonder how the Daleks fought the time war really?

McCoy is another Doctor who performs well in the audio productions and the scripts are much better, in general, than the original series (later episodes).

I think you’re right maggenpye when you say that Eccleston was there to introduce the character and the concept of regeneration to a new generation, who may not have been familiar with the character. And of course the best thing about the new series is the pacing of the episodes, they are so much more dynamic than many of the original series.

One of my all-time favorites. Just goes to show.

I was long gone by then but no matter what the quality of the scripts he was still an annoyingly unfunny little tosser both in real life and as the doctor.

Me, too. I loved the recursion. Found out later that Escher had a print titled Castrovalva, but never found out if there was any connection. The print was not recursive. It just showed a city on a cliffside.

Eccleston only wanted to do that one season and that was decided before it started airing. I guess no one knew how the franchise was going to take off again.
