Terminator:SCC 3/3/08

Well, you know SWAT guys aren’t all that bright. Someone said “fall back” and they all thought that meant, “into the pool.”

I assume the unknown bad guy doesn’t know about Cameron, and just wanted to kill everyone, or at least punish them by killing the next person to use the car. Won’t he be surprised when Cameron’s still flaming endoskeleton comes after him.

I can’t believe it’s done after only what, nine episodes?

To those who have not seen the movies (yet like this show), now is a great time to check them out during the hiatus. The first one mostly still holds up and is a classic in sci-fi-action-thriller, and the 2nd one is a pretty great sequel that wasn’t just a re-hash of the first movie… besides it’s a fun ride. James Cameron in his prime. Skip the 3rd movie if you can… nothing to see there. It was pretty pointless.

Right. Was that due to the writer’s strike, or was that all Fox ordered for the season?

You have to see the first movie. It’s probably a little dated now, with it’s 80’s fashions, but it’s an incredible action movie. The best action movie IMO. T2 was good also, though not as powerful as one. T3 is one of those movies I pretend didn’t happen. The show ignores it also.

Has anyone made a connection between ARTIE and Cromartie yet?

Crom!

Like many have said, it’s a fun show with its flaws. The thing that got me in the second episode monday night was when they were after the guy selling them the computer in the WiFi place. He goes into a back room. Sarah asks Cameron, “Can you get through that door?” Now, it was alocked door, but not a bank vault door. Cameron’s response, “Yes, but the wall would be faster.” So instead of pounding through the door and busting through the weak locks and/or hinges, she pound through cinder block walls for a few minutes. That has to be the least logical computer “mind” ever! That really annoyed me for the rest of the show.

Hi Cameron, I’m here for our prom date!

[Cameron answers door]

Uhh, that’s okay. I think I’ll skip the prom after all. Okay, thanks, bye!

I can kinda believe it was a specially reinforced door or something, but what I can’t believe is how she still has any flesh left on her hands considering what she uses them for. Is she special in that she can re-grow her flesh really quickly?

She is, actually. That was established in a very early episode.

The door was obviously supposed to be heavy and reinforced. A reinforced, thick steel door would be harder to break through than a cement block wall.

If you replay it, you’ll notice it was a flanged door, like a door on a submarine or jetliner. That made weaknesses of hinges and locks irrelevant except from the other side. But Cameron was on the wrong side, so her assessment was correct.

I’m getting the impression that the major joy of this show is as a platform from which to launch nitpicks about “flaws”. But why spoil it with these things called “facts”?

Well, first of all, I shudder at the thought that someone’s exposure to the Terminator mythology does not include T1 and T2.

T1 has stood up reasonably well over the years. The 80s fashions isn’t a problem IMHO as it is a time travel story meant to take place in the 1980s. Most of the special effects are still quite good, including the flash-fowards to the future. There are a couple of effects shots that are a bit dated like the stop-motion Jason and the Argonauts endo-skeleton and some of the latex heads, but overall it’s still good.
It occurs to me that the 8xx series terminators seem to be hardwired with a sense of irony and sarcasm. Like they will actually pause in their mission, possibly allowing their target to escape, just so they can bust out a one liner.

The cheesy quips are an integral part of the franchise. I require them.

Ok, I’ve watched nearly the whole season, and I don’t have anything to nitpick. One or two things bugged me, but I can ignore them.

Overall, the show grew on me more and more as it went. Some great action, interesting but not too-fast moving plots, and yes, I think the acting is pretty good and also imporving.

The Johnny Cash scene (will it ever be called anything else? Nope.) was, to my mind, brilliant. I recognized it as a cost-saving measure, but if you think about it how many times do we really need to see a cyborg smack around a bunch of heavily-armed cops. Really.

This was deeply dramatic. Obviously the fight was hopeless, but by putting the camera under the pool the audience experienced that uncomfortable “holding your breath” feeling. There is helplessness there that only punctuates the fact that you couldn’t do anything to help anyway. The distortion of the shouts and gunfire also adds to the surreal, out-of-body experience and wrongness of the situation.

I’m calling this the best-constructed fight scene never filmed.

I hope to hell the show is renewed, but if it isn’t, I am sure going to buy the first season on DVD.

Inasmuch I’ve never bought a TV show on DVD nor can I afford to do so, nor would T:TSCC be at the top of my list … I am in concurrence with you, Rik
