Even if you accept that meaning of “butthurt,” it doesn’t sound like RedFury was being very complimentary.
Lots of words are acceptable on this board as long as they’re not being used to personally attack another user.

Why does RedFury’s username say “Banned” instead of “Suspended”?
He was clearly acting like an ass. I’m with the mods on this one.
A ban can be for varying lengths of time, all the way up to permanent, but the title is always “Banned”. It has to be manually changed to “suspended”.
Speaking generally, I approve of 24, 48 or 72 hour bans/suspensions. Speaking generally, if you need 24, an extra 24 or 48 probably won’t hurt. Speaking generally, I don’t see such a penalty as being a big deal.
Speaking generally, I would say that causing problems for the volunteer mods is problematic at best. As is whining about mod actions that you believe to be less than optimal or getting hysteric about the same.
Speaking specifically, I sincerely hope that RedFury shapes up. I don’t agree with him all that much, but he usually makes the board more interesting, AFAIK.
OK. Why wasn’t it manually changed to “Suspended”? He hasn’t been banned, he’s been suspended. We see that monicker all the time, and it causes less confusion if we label things the way they are instead of the way they aren’t.
It’s a simple question. If some mod wants to just say they don’t have the time, that’s OK. But it seems like the better thing to do, that’s all.
Not sure if it matters or not, but my vote is to not ban Red. Seemed like more a tempest in a teapot than a long standing problem.

If you guys would go ahead and make a statement about the new rule but not really a new rule regarding misogyny, these threads would stop.

While you may see it as an “inflammatory board issue”, I just see it as a silly, embarrassing glitch. I did not mean to be inflammatory; if anything a little levity might be helpful. And I never realized a little humor was verboten in ATMB.

I love this MB. No subject is sacred (if you are in the correct forum). And the mods are not gods.
I feel the need to stick my ass into the fire again — to say that I think the mods are asymptotically approaching the right modding level in that thread. We understand that the mods have been furiously consulting one another, trying to craft a workable policy about the whole misogyny business. (And I hope they deal with the misandry on this board too.)
Whereas I previously accused them of sticking their heads in the sand hoping it will just go away, I’m on the other side now: They really need to take their sweet time discussing this, and craft a properly fine-tuned policy, that neither makes this board so up-tight that it feels like life in North Korea, nor allows this board to become the cesspool of misogyny/misandry that it has so nearly flirted with so much lately.
Marley23 suggested there would be an announcement by Friday afternoon, and that hasn’t happened yet. I hope they will offer periodic progress reports (perhaps by burning their ballots so we can see the color of the smoke). But they need to think very carefully and get this right. I am prepared to assume that this is what they are trying to do.
They may indeed be approaching some results, and they may indeed be letting slip “hints” of how it will look, just to see how it will fly. In the Connection Problems thread, they let slide some light-hearted (I thought) remarks, beginning with kayaker’s “female thing” quip. This suggests (assuming they were actually paying attention at the time) that they might lighten up on that kind of stuff, compared to the modding in the Sorority Drama Queen thread and elsewhere recently.
RedFury’s “misogyny — reported” post may have pushed the limits just a little bit. It might have been a toss-up as to whether that’s over the line. I’d have let it slide, but I’d also let the mod decision there slide. I hope this shows, approximately at least, where the mods may be about to draw the line. If so, I hope they are doing this (letting show where they’re headed) on purpose.
The “butthurt Panamanian” post seemed clearly to be a direct insult to one specific mod.
Now I’m disappointed that the mods have subsequently back-pedaled and suggested that several of the earlier quips should have been mod-noted. This tells me that they are still too gun-shy after all last week’s conniptions, are haven’t quite figured out yet that they need to go easy on that stuff. If they finally come down with an overly-restrictive policy, then the poster who wrote “I can’t believe I’ve lived to see the SDMB jump the shark” (paraphrased from how I remember it, from one of the misogyny threads) will be right.
So, mods, keep on discussing it for however long it takes until you feel you’ve got it just right. Keep us posted on your progress.
