Not to state the obvious but one of my big takeaways from this situation is just how horrible it is when something so tragic like this happens and we can’t even trust any of the information coming out of the country where it happened.

Are these the right guys? Or is Putin just grabbing random people on the street and torturing them for political gain? Did he know about the attack beforehand? If he did would it have mattered? I think all valid questions and ones that we will never have satisfying answers to. Certainly not soon enough to actually matter.

It’s just a big ball of f***** up and there’s nothing we can really do about it. It’s so senseless.

I agree with the thrust of your post.

But it caused me to have a different and disturbing thought. Everything you have said about Putin’s Russia is exactly how US Conspiracy Theory (“CT”) believers think about the USA and all the world, not just Russia.

Trying to reason in such an unhinged world would be impossible. Which of course is why Russia is trying so hard to foment rampant CT-ism in the USA and other Western democracies.
