Russian ambassador assassinated in Turkey

repercussions?

None that I can imagine. Russia isn’t going to invade Turkey over an extremist act.

This is how world wars get started.
Why is Turkey in NATO again?

https://twitter.com/agirecudi/status/810895589433049090?ref_src=twsrc^tfw is a video of the shooting, for the morbidly curious.

Depends on who Putin blames.

The comments say the assassin was a Turkish policeman…

Extremist? It was apparently a Turkish special ops police officer on the security detail, not an attacker who busted in off the street. Maybe he was an undercover terrorist, but the narrative is there for the Russians if they want it. Especially since the Turks have been so busy purging anyone with a hint of being anti-Erdogan but apparently overlooked this guy.

That’s what I’ve read elsewhere. Turkish policeman, appears to be radicalized Muslim. He got lit up and is now dead too.

The source I saw listed his information like this:

Mevlüt Mert Altintas
Ankara Riot police
Born 1994
Graduate from Izmir police school
but I have no way of confirming any of that.

What I heard on MSNBC was that he was a cop, but not on duty, so he wasn’t supposed to be there.

Ahhh, shit

x.com says, “Reports of shooting near US Embassy Ankara”

They are saying that it’s the same shooting. The embassy is near where the ambassador was assassinated.

Ahhh, thanks for the clarification.

Any word from Russia yet? Are they mad at Turkey? ISIS? Both?

From what I have seen in the news, this is not ISIS, since the gunman was ranting about Aleppo. AFAIU ISIS is not a big player in Aleppo.

According to the BBC newsfeed (available here: Live: Russian ambassador shot dead in Turkey - BBC News ), Erdogan and Putin were talking shortly after the attack, and a Russian spokesman said that this would not affect the relationship between Russia and Turkey:

So, I guess that this will not particularly affect Russia-Turkey relations… And, given how Russia tends to react to these things, very likely there will be massive retaliatory bombardment of Aleppo and other rebel-held areas courtesy of the Russian military in Syria.

Whoever this idiot was, his killing the Russian ambassador will only increase by a LOT the suffering on the ground in Syria.

Maybe it is ISIL.

Totally different thing.

World wars start when there are nations who want to fight world wars. The actual ‘triggering events’ are a pretext. If Turkey shooting down a Russian plane didn’t kick off a war, I think that’s pretty good evidence that they don’t want to fight that badly, and thus this incident will likewise be smoothed over.

The alt-right Alex Jones etc. crazies are already saying this is a false flag op by either Obama or Erdogan.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky is already blaming it on NATO.

I’m sure President-elect Trump will have a reasonable, well considered response. Not.
