Breaking news: a suspect, provisionally identified as a 37 years old male from Turkish descent, killed 3 and wounded 9 passengers in a streetcar shooting in Utrecht (Netherlands). The suspect is still on the run. Terrorist motives are deemed ‘likely’ by the authorities. BBC news.
It was a matter of time before our country was hit as well. 
While the motive isn’t known yet, the likelihood of islamic terrorism is a bit lower now (at least as the main motive). The suspect seems to be well known by the authorities and has been prosecuted for all kinds of crime (amongst which rape, theft, attempt at murder). Not your typical religious extremist. The word now is that the motive might be in what we call euphemistically “relational sphere”.
Doesn’t make it any less terrible and him being still at large is disconcerning.
Latest report shows that he’s now been caught.
It’s being reported that the victims were a woman he’d been in a relationship with plus two people who came to her aid.
Latest info released just now suggests no relationship between the shooter and any of his victims - terrorism still very likely.
The people on this particular message board often try to hold off claiming terrorism until all the facts are sorted especially in breaking news threads.
They do? Well, maybe when the shooter is other than a white male.
Yeah generally in these Breaking News type threads we are told to keep our assumptions about possible terrorism to ourselves. I don’t know why it wouldn’t apply in this case too. I don’t know what his race and gender have to do with this. Seems to me it was automatically assumed to be terrorism based on ethnicity. Honestly I’m responding to the snark and assumption here that we don’t want to know “the truth”. I thought that was obvious.
