When I quote the poll with images that was posted up thread it doesn’t work. It says not allowed to embed images. Possibly @engineer_comp_geek is allowed because he’s a mod?

Discourse apparently doesn’t copy it directly. It’s making its own links out of things, which screws up the poll.

It looks like you’ll have to manually edit the post to get the format correct. Remove the first link (including the parenthesis at the beginning of it) and remove the extra parenthesis at the end so that you end up with basically this:

I don’t know. I didn’t think that any of this depended on mod/admin status but I could be wrong.

ETA: Well, that didn’t work.
I don’t believe the SDMB Discourse allows any image embedding. When I want to put an image in a post, I go to the web page with the image, right click, select Open Image in a New Tab, and paste the URL of that tab onto its own line in my post.
The result is not (from Discourse’s point of view) an embedded image, but a preview of the contents of the URL I’ve pasted in, which, of course, is a copy of the image.
I suspect that the polls don’t allow a URL preview in the poll itself (breaks the rule of previews only appear if the URL is on its own line). I’m guessing that polls might allow a hyperlink in some of the poll text, and maybe it would allow the Discourse generated text you get if you don’t get a preview when you paste in the URL, like this:

Interesting. The second item is just the bare URL pasted in, but Discourse has generated the hyperlink words again (ETA: in my preview only!). In the fourth line, Discourse doesn’t generate hyperlink text (even if I remove the leading text, I tried it).
I seem to remember that an additional hack was made to try and disable displaying images altogether, not just uploading them (or caching them). It definitely seems that way based on the error message, and the fact that a mod doesn’t see the same error.
It might be useful to ask tech support if that hack can be removed. It seems to be some sort of permissions setting in users.
Note that I’m not saying we should switch to the image-hosting plan. I realize that costs money. Just to see if there’s something that could be done to give permissions for both mods and regular users to embed images hosted elsewhere.

You can take a screen shot and upload it to imgur if you want. You’d need an imgur account. Or any photo site where you can get the link to your uploaded photo.
Put the URL by itself on its own line.
Edited: if you look at @Cardigan ’s posted photo of the Batmobile, and if you quote that as if you were going to reply, you’d see how that was done.
