Test your vocabulary for Free Rice

This website will donate 10 grains of rice for every multiple-choice vocabulary identification you get right. This is a good thing. The addicting thing is that every time you get a word right, the next word is harder. Every time you get a word wrong, the next word is easier. And it shows what vocabulary level you’re on. By their scale, of course.

My competitive streak earned someone 2200 grains of rice my first time out. It was such fun to touch so many words that I didn’t know or that took me time to suss out. I mostly bumped up and down between levels 46 and 50. It was a hoot.

Come on. You know you want to try it.

Hmm… interesting. I’m not sure I always agree with their word meanings, though.

Let’s see. I stopped at 1810, (vocab level 43) because I kept getting repeats. Fun though. Learned some new stuff.

The medical terminology class I took last semester certainly helped.

What am I going to do with 30 grains of rice?

Hee! They just asked me to define ‘eidolon’.

2430 so far. I should go to bed.

  1. I better stop before it gets too late.

1000 grains… could not reach above level 30.
I’ll try again when I have more rest.

2000 grains, vocab level 43, whatever that means. Kinda fun for the erudite polyglot.

I gave up at 2250 when the repetition of words started to get annoying. They repeated scoria, quiddity, xanthous, vendue and at least a couple others. Actually that got annoying before I got to 2250, but my competitive streak wouldn’t let me stop until I beat the OP. Also I was trying to see if I could hit 51, but 50 was the highest I could go.

I bump around between 43 and 44. I hit 46 now and then but not consistently.

Vocab level 48 - they used one of my favourite words “lobscouse” Oh yessssss.

I hope they make a nice paella with my rice.

I gave up when I hit 2000 because I was bored with the repeats. I was at level 43 at the time, but I hit 46 or so several times. (I kept forgetting to watch my score.)

I made it to an even 3000 grains, but my vocab level ranged from 34-42.

2520 grains, but I keep dropping back to level 40, and now I just dropped to 39. Off to bed.

It gave me none of these words, though after I got in the zone I was hitting 49-50 pretty consistently.

I got up to level 50 or 51, but then I got stuck back in the low 40’s. I’ve donated about 1000 grains of rice, which could be arranged as an array of 10x10x10 rice grains. That’s not a lot of rice.

I agree. Some of the definitions are quite odd.

Wait, I don’t get to keep the rice? Fuck that.

They say in the FAQ that there are 50 levels, so you probably didn’t get 51.

What fun! I was consistently getting correct the words in the 44-45 range, and 46 was actively challenging. I expect we as a group score higher than most, whatwith the word nerds in the audience.

By my calculations, if a grain of rice weighs 25 mg, they’ve raised a total of about 6500 kg or 14,00 pounds of rice so far.

Also, if we assume the rice is 100% startch, at 4 calories per gram we get

6500kg = 6,500,000 g = 26,000,000 calories

assuming a subsistence diet of 1300 calories per person per day (just an aritrary number I picked), it’ll feed 20,000 people for one day.
