Testing images as YouTube links forbidden

Testing an image as YouTube links aren’t allowed to be posted - getting the warnings when I try to post a link to YouTube:

An error occurred: Sorry, you can’t embed media items in a post.

Why can’t I post any sort of link to YouTube? The forum doesn’t even give the option of posting a link without embedding it.

EDIT: you can if you post it via the hyperlink icon, then it just appears as a link. Posting the link into the body of the message is refused. I don’t think it’s always been like this.

Ah thanks, I did look but must have missed that.

Usually, putting a slash after the URL will fix it.

Well it sort of works… but its not a playable video. Thanks for your help.

Try copying the video URL, not the page URL.

I used the URL provided by YouTube’s share button which should have been the video…

Hmm I’ll try with this video (which is excellent BTW):

Great it works only with the / as you suggested, although I cannot edit. Can’t believe this has been an issue since April and I hadn’t noticed before!

Thanks!

This is a bug. The folks at Discourse have been made aware of it, but so far we don’t have a fix. See the link to the thread in Site Feedback that @crowmanyclouds posted above for more information and for various workarounds that people have discovered.

Since there is already a discussion in Site Feedback, I am going to close this. Please use the Site Feedback thread for testing and for further discussion about the bug.
