I am manfully trying to resist a terrible pun on beer balls. But it would seem I have failed! 
When I tried to edit my thread it kept telling me I wasn’t logged in, which I clearly am.
This should really be in a separate thread, Xerxes I, but since you’re here, the reason you can’t edit is that the Powers that Be have decided, with good reason, to disable that feature. Posts can still be edited, but only by moderators and administrators, so if you desparately need something changed, you can e-mail one of them. If everyone were able to edit posts, then it’d leave the door wide open for all sorts of abuse… A person could post inflammatory comments, and then, when people responded, change them, and then claim that they were being attacked for no reason.
I, too, have come here due to a semi-mystical pull emanating from the word “testicles”.

And deleting things when they aren’t dirty (or duplicates or anything) seems rude, too.

They fixed it so you can’t edit them, so you delete them instead.
If you have a problem with someone, why not just email them? Don’t all Moderators get to see email addresses?
When you delete threads like that it just screws up everybody’s post counts, and makes it hard to find topics you want to refer to.

It is advisable to post some sort of a hint that you are, otherwise some humour-impaired people might think that you’re a complete nutbag or some ne’er-do-well who has left us but feels the need to return in the absence of a better - or any - offer of interaction. I’ve seen edited threads, and the “edited by” line seems entirely appropriate. Why would you need to go further and delete anything?

UncleBeer may like to let on that he’s the “bad boy” of the mods, but he’s not as bad as all that. You’ll notice he didn’t really remove this thread.
You’ll also note that this forum is the place for test threads, and that goes for moderators as well as us mere mortals. UncleBeer wondered if it was possible to remove the “edited by” line, and so he tried it. This doesn’t mean that he wants to be able to edit posts stealthily, it just means that he wants to know if it’s possible. As he said, it’s a good thing that he can’t.
By the way, moderators still have the power to edit posts, and I’m reasonably sure that there isn’t anyone capriciously deleting posts around here, either. If posts are disappearing, then that either means that there was some darn good reason for a moderator to delete it (they’re very reluctant to do so, even then, for various reasons), or that there’s some sort of weird, unexplained bug in the software (quite possible; the board’s been a bit schizo the past couple of days) which is doing it against the mods’ will, and they’re doing everything in their power to try to get them back.

As for why I was going to delete this thread when I was finished, it was to avoid the suspicions you’ve just posted. I was called away from the computer to do something and when I finally returned to this thread it had a response from another member. That’s why I ultimately did not delete the entire thing.
And yes, I can still edit posts, as well as delete them. What use would a moderator be without these abilities?
