There has to be a “first post” sometime, I suppose – so this may as well be it!
Oh, nifty! I looked at the preview on the original post, but the formatted text didn’t show up as actual formatted text – but it did on the post. Happy camper
The italics didn’t show up on preview? That’s odd… They should have. That’s one of the main purposes of preview, to let you see whether you got your coding right.
I saw the coding, but no, I didn’t see the italics. However, I was using the “new thread” screen, not the “your reply” box. So now I’ll look at “preview” using the reply box and see what it looks like…
OH! I ma
<sigh> It’s been a long week…
I was about to say that I may have been reading the wrong box in the preview screen. I only just noticed the “post preview” box above the “post reply” box.
Well, the FAQ does say that this is the forum for experimenting (and, I presume, making mistakes!)
Welcome to the board!
And yes, this is the forum for experimenting to your hearts content!
Oh, and a little trick is if you see a user use formatting that you like a lot (color, font size, etc), hit the quote button on the right side of their post and check out how to do it.
Have fun!

quilter, welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board, glad to have you here. (My wife is also a quilter, but she doesn’t post here, she says one loon in the family is enough.)
Heh. I’d argue that quilting keeps me sane, considering some of my loony colleagues!
Thanks Chronos, Shadez, and C K Dexter Haven for your kind welcome
Dex, just be glad she’s not a weaver, because one loom in the family is definitely enough.
But then, I shouldn’t talk. My mom has three.
Your mother has three weavers in the family, Chronos? or three loons? …er, looms?
Don’t feel bad, it took me about fifty or so posts to notice that the previewed post is actually above what your screen opens up on. I specifically remember staring at the screen and muttering “F**kin’ thing doesn’t work”.
And welcome to the board.
Three looms, including one she made herself from an old work table. Although she does have rather a collection of decoys, including a few loons. And I’ve long since lost count of how many cousins I have (at least 50), and most of us are a bit looney as well.
This isn’t really a test, it’s post count padding. But it’s to make a tribute a little more fitting.

Nap-tha.
Welcome to the boards quilter and “no”-brainer.
BTW… I, like Q.E.D. pronounce it NAP-tha.
How do you pronounce nuclear? (~mischievous grin~)
Okay, everyone, you may open your test booklets now.
Good lord, IWRIWRIWRAAIWRAAAYWR, you’ve got a long name.
