Texas City Dyke

Yesterday my brother and I heard a song on the radio. It was a novelty country/blues song and judging from the chorus its title is “Texas City Dyke”. But a search via Google, Yahoo, Dogpile, Amazon, and CDNow didn’t find the song. Anyone know who sings it?

Needless to say, I was totally underwhelmed by the response I got on this one.

But in case anyone else was wondering, I was able to identify the performer, “Mean” Gene Kelton, and the CD, Most Requested. Kelton is a local performer in Houston, Texas. He sells his CD through his website www.genekelton.com but I was able to get a copy at Cactus Records on South Shepard.

There goes nemo , talkin to hisself agin.

The song title “Texas City Dyke” is a play on
the Texas City Dike. The Texas City Dike is a 5 mile long Dike that sticks out into Galveston Bay. It is a popular recreation and fishing area around here. Texas City is about 35 South of Houston. Texas City Dyke is a very old pun down here.
