It’s been implied that Texas hasn’t contributed much to the music industry. I’m not gonna pit, rant, or call names…but WTF!
I’d like to get a list going of ALL the musicians that have come out of Texas. Please include where they are from if possible. I’ll get the ball rolling and I know I’m not even going to scratch the surface.

Don’t forget Robert Earl Keene! I do believe he hails from College Station, Tx.
Seems to me that Austin, Tx could provide a long enough list on its own to dispell any myth about the states contribution (or lack thereof) to music.
Oh, yeah. Michelle Shocked is from Texas, too.
Somebodys gotta go back and git a shitload of dimes!
Waylon Jennings - Littlefield
Bob Wills - Kosse
Selena - Corpus Christi
Ok, and nobody heard me say this but…
Destiny’s Child - Houston
I forgot about Bob Wills, I got my doper name from his band.
Robert Earl Keene is from Bandera, Tx (he went to school in College Station where he was Lyle Lovett’s roomate). So is Charlie Robison whom I will add to the list.
I suppose trying to keep up w/ any numbers is gonna be a problem. I’ll go back later and handle that. Let’s see…
96 Tears- Corpus Christi
Big Bopper- Sabine Pass
Boz Scaggs- Dallas
Steve Miller- Dallas
Kenny Rogers- Houston
Ray Price- Perryville
Jerry Jeff Walker- Austin
Some of these may be adopted Texans by their own admission. Hell, not everyone has to be actually born here. As long as they got here as quick as they could.
astorian you sure hammered the list I was about to post…good work
I’m not through yet…Texas has no musical talent, sheesh
I was wondering if TexasPlayboy was going to let Bob Wills slip by?
My favorite… Rev. Horton Heat!!
Blind Lemon Jefferson (everybody credits Robert Johnson, but it was Blind Lemon he was imitating)
T-Bone Walker
Lightnin’ Hopkins
Leadbelly split time between Texas and Louisiana, and can reasonably be claimed by both.
Unfortunately they are no longer together, but The Toadies rocked!
Juat a few from the fringes:
The Jewws…Houston
Sons of Hurcules: Houston, San Antonio, Austin
Boxcar Satan: San Antonio
Old 97’s: Austin I think
Fatal Flying Guilliteens: Houston
Frigg a Go Go: splits time between Louisiana and Texas
Sugar Shack: Houston
Sprague Brothers: Whitchita Falls
so many bands…so little time…
Ernest Tubb - Crisp
Clint Black - Houston
Pat Green - Waco
Charley Pride - Dallas
Barbara Mandrell - Houston
Gene Autry - Tioga
Lefty Frizzell - Corsicana
Drowning Pool- Dallas
Sam the Sham (Domingo Samudio)- Dallas
Little Texas, “God Blessed Texas”- Arlington
and I gotta include Hank Williams Jr.
Even though he WAS actually born in Shreveport, Louisiana. Just across the river for those who don’t know.
I think everyone knows his feelings 'bout Texas…
Bowling for Soup
Brave Combo
Two grammy nominated bands from Denton. I am not sure if they have won any Grammys, but I beleive they have.
