Texas Dopers...a penny fer yer thoughts

From July 20-22, CG and I are taking a mini-vacation. We are driving to San Antonio. We want to do something fun (other than sightsee cuz we’ve both done that zillions of times already). We can’t decide if we should go to New Braunfels and go to Schlitterbahn, go to Fiesta Texas or go to Sea World (neither of which either one of us has been to in a loooooooooooongass time).

So what do you think? A penny fer yer thoughts, Texas dopers.

Schlitterbahn has changed a LOT in the past ten years, as the place buys up more and more property downtown. If you haven’t been in a while, you might want to try it again. Schlitterbahn also tends to be somewhat cheaper, and it’s adjacent to Gruene, on the other end of New Braunfels… still the best kept secret tourist attraction in south Texas.

Fiesta Texas… well… they’ve put in a few new rides, made changes here and there, but they’re largely the same thing they were ten years ago, although the shows are different (and better, these days.) I really like Fiesta Texas, it’s a fun place. I’d like it even more if they didn’t charge $4.00 for a bottle of Evian water during the middle of a Texas summer.

Sea World tends to be my least favorite of the attractions, simply because it’s largely the same thing every time we go. Only so many times I can pet a dolphin or watch Shamu do flips before I’ve seen it before. I do like their big aquariums, though.

Go tubing on the Lower Guadalupe, have dinner at the Gristmill, and go dancing to Two Tons of Steel at Gruene Hall. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

i second ** don’t mind me’s ** suggestion. Bring a cooler for the beer, freeze a bunch of grapes (good for snacking a making friends on the river) and float the day away. And sunscreen is a must.

Dinner at the Gristmill is always super yummy and one always has to go Gruene Hall while in the area.

I third on tubing. Sunscreen is indeed beyond a must, and wear old sneakers. If you’re doing something that night, you might want to make it a relatively short to medium one-spending all day on the river can be draining. Drink very light beer. This is one of the only circumstances I will recommend Lone Star Lite, ever.

TUBING!

I used to go to Concan. Tubed the Frio River. Less crowded, lots of varied scenery, including a deep wide area with tree ropes for swingout to the water.

Good times.
As far as San Antonio, I assume you’ve done all the river walk stuff. Sea World is really fun.

Schlitterbahn. SPF 9zillion sunscreen necessary.

That and the SAS factory store (the actual factory, with half price shoes sometimes) are the reasons to go to the greater San Antonio area.

And the food.

CG will NOT go Tubing…he had a bad experience with it years ago and refuses to go.:frowning:

Oh well…talked to Princess Jessica (my sisterinlaw) yesterday and they just got back from Schlitterbahn. Methinks we’ll be heading there.
