What’s the need for a law? If some upstanding white young gentleman has sex a girl without her consent, why call it a rape and ruin his future political career? And if some colored boy has sex with a white girl, why get the police and courts involved? We got a rope right here.
I was debating (ok, arguing) with someone on facebook about this and he said his daughters would never be raped because he taught them not to get raped.
So that is all you need to do, teach women not to get raped. Problem solved
ISTM that the problem with this reasoning is the same as with all slurs involving characteristics like race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, physical disability and so forth. By using a slur that conveys contempt for an entire class of people to insult one individual, you’re unintentionally also insulting all the other people that the slur applies to.
And suggesting that Abbott’s misogynistic authoritarianism is somehow caused by his physical disability, rather than simply by his being a dictatorial asshole, seems like… more of the same.
Maybe that’s Abbott’s plan – add “how not to be raped” to the sex ed programs in Texas. I don’t know why those liberal snowflake states didn’t think of that - probably too woke to exclude rapists! RLM!
I wonder how he can predict who will be a rapist.
I can guess, however.
@Little_Nemo probably nailed it.
Something less remarked upon here is how Abbott framed his response – he said that, “Texas will work tirelessly to make sure that we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas by aggressively going out and arresting them and prosecuting them and getting them off the streets.”
Twice referencing rapists as being “on the streets” is not accidental. It’s meant to subtly reinforce an image of rape as a street crime committed by (likely black or brown) gang members against unsuspecting strangers. Whereas the majority of rapes are acquaintance rapes committed by a victim’s partner, friend, family member or classmate. I wonder if Abbott will be just as zealous pursuing the Brett Kavanaughs and Brock Turners of the world as Houston gangbangers.
I’m gonna guess no.
Taking a cue from their Taliban role models, ‘rape’ is the woman’s fault and should be the ones punished for their loose morals. Problem solved.
Not to get too serious in a Pit thread, but has Abbott or anyone else come out with some explanation for that bullshit he spouted? Something like, “he really meant…” or whatever?
If he had a legitimate explanation to offer, it wouldn’t sound like so much bullshit.
It was an inept and transparent attempt to change the subject, nothing more.
It’s a shame that oak tree didn’t have better aim.
BINGO! This is the winning answer!
Greg will eliminate rape by declaring that there is no such thing. Clearly, the woman was asking for it.
If Abbott can wave his (doubtless, microscopic, flaccid, and useless) magic wand and eliminate rape entirely, then why shouldn’t we assume that he can do the same thing with every form of violent crime ?
And if since he can eliminate all forms of violent crime, then how many Texans really need a firearm, anyway ?
Hm.
When women are only allowed outside their own home in the accompaniment of a close male relative, and even then only when attired in a full-length burqa, clearly there will be no raping in the streets. (It’s only rape when done outdoors in the streets, right? Abbott said so.)
This is all starting to make sense.
Was the TX Governor born here ?
Since there will be no more rapes, they can get rid of the backlog of rape kits! Two birds, one stone.
The whole “pregnancy due to rape” brouhaha is just a ploy to keep the lib’ruls tied up in knots while Abbott and his crew tend to other matters (such as delegitimizing transgenders). After all, everyone knows a woman can’t get pregnant from a genuine rape, since the Holy Ghost will protect her; so any woman trying to get an abortion because of “rape” is obviously a loose-moraled liar.
Maybe Abbott is just relying on the wisdom of a respected judge?
We also remember learning from Renowned Sex Educator Todd Akin that after a “legitimate rape”, women have a way of “shutting that whole thing down”.
