So a friend of mine just got a really cool, really small Canon digital video recorder to take to Thailand in a couple weeks, but doesn’t want to lay out the big bucks for the extended life battery ($130), SD memory card (64mb $60ish), and iLink (Firewire)($40) cable. She was told that she could get the battery and card in Thailand for less, but doesn’t want to risk counting on that. Anyone know how difficult it is to buy these things in Bangkok (where she starts the trip)? Just to add to the challenge, she doesn’t speak Thai.
Kop Koon Kop (which I think means “thank you”),

She can look for these things at Pantip Plaza, a sort of computer place. Outside of Bangkok she’ll have a lot of trouble to find anything like this. I can give directions on how to get there, but it’s probably simplest to get into a cab and ask them to take you there. It’s not guaranteed that they’ll have exactly what she’s looking for or that it will necessarily be cheaper, but it could be. I doubt that there’s a credible way to research the cost before you get there. Also you can bargain on some prices in Thailand, but I don’t think any of these items fits into that category. Depends on whether it’s counterfeit or imported, to a certain extent.
And that’s more or less thank you, if you’re a guy. If you’re female then the ending should be “ka”.
Thanks ShibbOleth,
I’ll pass on the info. Sounds like she shouldn’t count on it, but maybe check it out if she forgets something, or wants to get more while she’s there. (I’m SO jealous.:))
