No, you just said you would not call it a “lie”, said that Obama’s statement could be truthful but only depending how you looked at it, and then proceeded to claim that Obama wasn’t telling the whole story. If Obama’s statement was inaccurate, it should be called inaccurate. If Obama’s statement was too simplistic, it should be called too simplistic. There is nothing whatsoever to indicate that Obama’s statement was a lie or deliberately untruthful. So if you agree with this, don’t prevaricate about it or defend the other position.

I said I would not call it a lie. Why? For those reasons you listed which I quoted, and said I AGREE with.
I’ve made the very points concerning accusations of lying by posters on these very boards numerous times. As I’ve said, one needs two criteria to be met. One, an untruth has to be offered. Two, the person offering it has to know it to be an untruth. Otherwise, we’re in the world of someone merely being mistaken.
So, I don’t think that Obama lied. I think he gave a truthful answer to the question in the way he had it framed in his mind. He explained that clearly. I do think, like so many politician’s answers, that he might have knowingly being somewhat disingenuous, giving a 100% truthful answer—technically, while knowing full well what the fuller concern was. Still, even id this is true, I agree that it does not merit the label of “lie”. I think we should all be less liberal with that accusation.
Depending on the specifics, I could make a pretty good guess. Good enough to be wiling to put money on it. Just to offer an extreme example, put one table outside a community center in Harlem and another outside the Stock Exchange down by Wall Street.

It wasn’t a landslide, but how is it not a mandate? He got more than half the votes, it’s a democracy, he won. That’s a mandate.

The Wall Street people would already be registered. It would be a waste of time. You have to go where people are not likely to be registered. You see everything as a plot.

It was just an example. Let me ask you: can you think of a place where one might find people not likely to be registered which would have a larger percentage of Republicans?

I’ve just come from an alternative future, one where ACORNs prostitution ring was not stopped in its tracks by intrepid conservative muckrakers and ACORN was allowed to take over the census.
In my future, people of this present, Barack Obama rules with an iron fist, where the Americorps and ACORN gather up disbelievers to appear before death panels. Health Care is not just rationed, but used to keep people in line. If you voice dissent that means no EKG for you, unless youa re an illegal immmigrant, in which case you get not just free health care, but a free car, a free LCD TV and a free XBOX.

I’m a bit puzzled. I’ve searched some major newspapers on the web and can’t find any references to this ACORN story. As in not even a mention. Is FOX the only outfit reporting on this? Is it just manufactured outrage over a minor employee misbehavior/firing?
