It’s been swell, head cold. I can’t tell you how lovely the last week of utter misery has been. The stuffed to the rafters sinus, but only the right one except when for a lark you close off the left? Charming. The resultant 4.7 gallons of mucous per day and the mounds of tissues piled up in every wastebasket? Heaven. The touch of fever, just enough to make me too warm to wear a sweater but too cold not to? Beautiful. The sore throat that bothers me just enough to make it almost impossible to talk on the phone without a coughing fit, and did I mention that my job is talking to 200 people on the phone every day? A slice of paradise.
But really, you’ve done enough for me. I feel so selfish having you for an entire week when there are so many people out there who don’t even have the sniffles. I just don’t feel right about keeping you here a minute longer.
Dontcha hate it when one side gets clogged up, but you can breathe through the other side? I hate it when that happens. Your left side is clogged up, and you begin to wonder whether you’ll ever breathe out of your left nostril, so you lie down on your right side and it all drains to the right. What causes that, man? Does all the snot drain into your other sinus? I’ve always wondered about that.
I’ve found that talking to, arguing with, and cursing at the many head colds that have visited me (multi-week stayovers, mostly) over the years really accomplishes nothing except to make me hoarse.
I still do it, of course.
OTTO, do not be mean to your cold. If you don’t treat it nicely it may decide to settle in your lungs and turn into pneumonia, causing you to miss six days of work, ingest five different kinds of medicine, and be threatened with hospitalization. At least, that’s what my last two weeks have been like.
But I do feel for you. Since when is “the cold and flu season” nine effing months long?
I just got a flu shot, and 3 days later, I catch a nasty cold. Flu shots make me achy and miserable enough, now I’m really miserable. And I have a sinus infection requiring antibiotics.
I would rant further but I’m too weak…
My cold and flu seaon is way too long, i am on my 2nd cold this fall. Right now I have a hacking cough, a stuffed nose and occasional dry heaves. My voice is gone, and my head hurts.
Fall: Score 1 nasty fucking cold, and one weak little flu with the most annoying stuff up your left ear today, your right one tomorrow gig going on…bastids, I can’t hear out my right ear right now, and I have a job interview!
I’m working a seasonal job for a company that authorizes checks for merchants over the phone. It’s pure facilitation of capitalism. I hate it and have been thinking about composing a rant. The people I talk to are for the most part not rude, but many of them are clueless. They continually find new and exciting ways not to be able to follow the most basic possible directions.
Cold’s all gone. I took the day off work Tuesday and spent it at home except for going to the gym to sit in the spa and do some cold-sweating-out. There was something about that workplace that aggravated the cold. I think it’s one of those sick buildings you used to hear about.
