If he’s not talking about the police, he’s quite reasonable and I often agree with him. For whatever reason, his worldview is that the police are to be revered, feared, idolized, worshipped, and obeyed without question or hesitation every single time and that any person who has strayed from 100% perfect behavior during a police encounter deserves death. But on any other subject, he seems quite decent. It’s quite odd, actually.

He’s like the squeaky toy that some people are compelled to poke just to hear it make noise. But the rest of us would be much happier if it got lost under the couch somewhere so the adults can have a conversation.

I had a screwed up childhood too. I said his childhood might explain his behavior, not that it excused it.

Based on his autobiographical posts, it sounds like he had a really shitty childhood, with an abusive father and a drug addicted mother who attempted suicide. It is possible that he at some point (or multiple points) in his life he was saved by a law enforcement officer, and so this cemented a very black and white view of justice. Again explanation not excuse.

I started that thread because I was genuinely pleased with the news, and I just wanted to be happy about it- that’s why I chose that forum. The thread had only gotten a few responses, but the general tone was in spirit with my happiness. I then noticed the IMHO thread concerning the same subject, and gave it a look. That’s when I saw what Smapti did to it, and felt relief that he had not participated in my thread.
Then, I checked in with the Contoversial Police Encounter thread and got another dose of Smapti Thread Fuckery.
I realize I may have, here, invited him in Dracula-style, but so far so good.
And, it looks like I may be buying Hormel stock.
He’s Joe Arpaio.
