25,000 posts in roughly fifteen years. Close to the word count of War and Peace, without managing to contribute anything significant to nearly every thread I posted in. This board has been a source of comfort when I’m down, joy with each new sex scandal, and sorrow when a member dies. (My wife still doesn’t understand what I get out of it.)
Thanks to my lousy memory of who I agree or disagree with or even who I know, and my own flexible approach to my beliefs, I consider each and every one of you some poorly-defined sort of acquaintance, whom I default to liking as a friend because I’m happier that way. Thank you for being my friends and, like the label says, thank you for putting up with my pointless yammering and my directionless rambling.
That sums it up very well. I am amazed at how many people continue vendettas and feuds with specific members, when to me you are all amorphous blobs of “SDMB folk”.
25000 posts, though. Craaaazy! looks at own post count Yep. Definitely crazy.
Oh, I know you! You’re Honey, and, as I recall, you’re nice. You may not actually BE nice, but that’s how I like to remember you. :o (No, I really do know who you are and I like you. You are sensible.)
It’s kinda sad how, the farther a poster gets from being a total psycho, the harder it is to pin them down in my memory. And even with the psychos, in most cases they pass the Dubya Test in that I’d probably enjoy having a beer with them. We’ll just stay away from certain topics. It’s how social animals behave.
Reminds me of Arnold J Rimmer’s leaving speech
"Look, I’m not much good at big speeches, and I know I haven’t always been an easy guy to get on with. And I know that, given the choice, I probably wouldn’t have chosen you as friends. But, I just want to say… that over the years I have come to regard you as… people… I met. "
<—Hands dropzone an ice-cold beer. Burgers, steaks, brats on the the grill are almost ready.
Now I have to ask…
Where in the heck is Cloud Cuckoo Land?
I first heard it describing where Kaiser Bill resided during WWI (Wolkenkuckucksheim), but the earliest reference seems to be from Aristophanes. Wikipedia describes it thusly:
Your user name is recognizable, and if you pissed me off or I pissed you off I forgot about it. So that puts you pretty high on my list and you should keep on doing that thing you do.
