Yeah, FotF is by far the most “mainstream” of all those groups. I recant the blanket generalization of Deep South, although I’m guessing that the subculture keeping Jack Chick and Kent Hovind rolling in the dough is pretty rare outside of the Deep South.

Gonna ask the mods to lock the thread, because I should follow Matthew 7:5 and keep from pitting them further. Even if they have kookoo beliefs, except for Grandma (who should be given the benefit of doubt due to old age) they are not a judgmental bunch. I’ve done far worse things to all of them then they to me.

Not really. You can find ultra-conservative independent “bible churches” as well as conservative denominations and conservative congregations of mainstream denominations all over the United States. Even in the blue states.

dre2xl: I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve read “only a very tiny minority of fundamentalists believe that” and I thought it was perfectly mainstream Christianity.

I can’t recall reading that even once. I have read statements that only a minority of Christians hold a particular belief.
