Why i started this thread:
A friend’s car was stolen from his driveway about 18 months ago. At 3:00 o’clock in the morning, the cops pound on the door waking the wife up (scaring the hell out of her) to let her know the car was stolen.
While out on the town, the car thieves hit another car, at which point they abandoned the car. Several days later, two other officers showed up at the door saying the car was involved in a hit-and-run and wanted some answers. Ummm…“Don’t you guys talk to each other? It was in a hit-and-run during the time it was stolen.”
For months and months the insurance company of the other driver kept calling threatening legal action for the accident. Each time, a copy of the police report was faxed to them. They finally gave up.
I was at sea (short, 2-week deployment) when my 10-year old Camaro was stolen. Instead of just taking the radio out of it and leaving the vehicle be, the scum had to park the car in a tow-away zone and then trash the car so bad it was unusable forever. Alameda County expected me to pay for the parking tickets, the towing charge, and the daily storage fee! The affordable alternative was for me to pay just the parking tickets and sign the car over to the county. The clerk at the impound lot had a wonderful suggestion: if the date on my stolen vehicle report was before the date of the tickets, I’d be off the hook for all of it. I thought my division officer (who drove me there) was going to slug her when she made that comment.
Yeah, I’m with the OP. Some people are useless. Car thieves, of course, are in that category.
What I mean is that I agree with the OP’s sentiment that some people are just useless. I don’t agree with the death penalty.
Well I finally got the bill-$1125.00; less $500 deductable. So there goes the money I was going to donate to various charities.
To the thief: thanks to you, some poor kid won’t get a Christmas toy, and a few homeless people won’t be havinga Christmas dinner!
