Thank'y, Cranky (As An Old Man)

I cannot for the life of me find Cranky’s e-dress (organized, I’m not), but I want to thank her for the delightful novel she just sent to me—just when I could use a lightweight, amusing book to read, too!

And you neglect to tell us what the book was? Shame on you, Eve. I could use lightweight and amusing!

I just sent you her e-mail address, I know she won’t mind. If she does, she’s gotta come GET ME. Hahahaha!

Eve, Cranky also just sent Hamadryad a book. Maybe you’ve heard of it? Something called Vamp

Hmmm…Eve, speaking of light and humorous, I’ve been meaning to ask you…I just read Sushi for Beginners by Marian Keyes…if you’ve read it, how accurate a picture does it present of the magazine publishing world?

Ditto!

Cranky sent me Bandbox, which looks just the thing to help me recover from my brush with Philip Wylie and the WWI histories I’ve been reading for research.

It’s funny, as much as I love hearing about what people are reading, I love the “provenance” of a book better. You know, how did you hear about it, who gave it to you, etc.

So in interest of that: someone in my book club suggested we read “Bandbox.” I hadn’t heard of it, but I’m trying very hard to stop constantly pushing my own selections on my fellow club members so I was only too glad to endorse it. I just finished it this weekend. It was quite a fun romp of a read and I just kept thinking of Eve when I read it, because it takes place in 1920s Manhattan. Further, everyone speaks in this delightful Jazz-Age way that, in my imagination, is how Eve surely talks.

I’d like to thank Cranky for being my pal, and lending me so much tupperware over the years it’s actually become quite embarassing.

Hurray for Cranky!!!

Email me – we need to arrange for the repatriation of your Ware du Tupp.

Plus, can I get dibs on “Bandbox”?

Actually, if no one minds, I’d like to give it to my Mom when I’m through–she’s even more in need of light reading than I am, and she can’t get to the library anymore.

No worries, Eve, she’s planning to borrow the copy I have.

And yes, I have it out from the Ann Arbor library. You can have it–I’d return it late, anyway, knowing me.
