That 70s Show discussion thread

Oh yeah, I forgot about the hazing. That was a big WTF to me. Never seen anything like that. I guess I ignored it so well I forgot it was in the movie.

…Why doesn’t anyone (Eric)? call out Red for his blatant favouritism of Laurie?

Eric does. Constantly. Red just tells him he’s a dumbass and Laurie just smirks.

As does Kitty.

That’s because you’re under the false belief that playing a challenging role is what launches a career. Screen presence and popularity are what launch acting careers. People like to Ashton Kutcher have their careers launched because people will watch whatever thay’re in; and if they’re not absolutely horrible in it… ta daaaa

Yes Kitty complained about the favoritism from time to time; frequently by muttering under her breath about what a slut Laurie is.

My most favourite exchange related to that was when Laurie started dating Kelso:

KITTY: And, Laurie? Have you given any thought about what you’re going to say to your father when *he * finds out?

LAURIE (high-pitched shriek): HE’S MY BOYFRIEND DADDY AND HE LOVES ME AND YOU CAN’T STOP US FROM BEING TOGETHER! (Turns to Kitty) What do you think?

KITTY: Laurie, I absolutely forbid you to bring that boy to dinner!

LAURIE: Ugh! Sometimes I really hate you!

KITTY: Well that’s too bad, cause I love you!

(Laurie leaves) Because I have to!

I’m sure a few of you will be interested in this great new Kurtwood Smith interview at the AV Club.

I wish he would have elaborated on That 70’s Show a little more than to just basically call it a cash cow. He said it was so special, but never really explained why or what it was like working on it.

Maybe, but I understand why he didn’t. He doesn’t want to be Red Foreman for the rest of his career. Barry Williams never got over being Greg Brady, though he did shoot himself in the foot on that one.

That’s my favorite, too. Kitty is one of my all-time favorite sitcom characters.

Debra Rupp actually sounds a bit like one of my high school history techers at times.

Also there was a British version of That 70s Show

Fenton will always have a place in my heart.

What’s the deal with him and Fez? Did the show ever say? It’s been months since I saw that episode?

Ever hear of a Noodle Incident?

Yep… but somehow I thought there was something hinted in one episode about what happened.

Sure, that’s the definition of a Noodle Incident.

EDIT: Never mind, the incident I’m referring to actually happened in a fanfic.

BTW, anyone like the Sunday episode in Season 1?

(Eric’s grandma is leaving the Forman house)

ERIC But I thought you said you were allergic to—?

RED Eric, don’t spoil it.

bump bump bump

Also does anyone have a favourite episode?

Let’s see:

  1. More people smoked during the 70s. Not just weed.
  2. People didn’t have 90s social attitudes in the 70s ( Racial and ethnic slurs were still common in daily speech and women weren’t treated as equals)
  3. Economic times were much harder for people. When Red got laid off or Bob’s store closed things would have been much grimmer than they were portrayed.
  4. Families were a lot more traditional. Not better, mind you; just a lot more set in their respective roles.
  5. The episode with the guy who was secretly and hitting on Eric would have had a far less pleasant ending. Why do you think San Francisco and New York became gay Meccas? Because people definitely weren’t accepted at home.

First season was the best. Debra Jo Rupp really gets overlooked for her performance as Kitty. Kurtwood Smith is always good. The “kids” were a mixed bag. And Tanya Roberts was beautiful but useless as always.
