Seeing that Clemens has failed once again at getting is 300th win… I have a question.
Which pitcher had to make the most attempts before winning his 300th?
Was it Warren Spahn who took eight attempts?
It was Early Wynn. After he won #299 for the White Sox on September 8, 1962, the Sox held him back from a road start so that he could go for #300 at home. The plan misfired when he lost twice on the ensuing homestand, and then one more on a final road trip before the season ended. The Sox released him the following spring. He hooked on with Cleveland, was activated in June 1963, and failed to win in his first four appearances (one in relief) before finally nailing down his 300th and last win on the eighth try on July 13, 1963.
Then change that to Late Wynn. Famous for answer to ,“Would you knock down your grandmother?” Yeah, if she was hitting me."
-Praying for permanent 299…(guess who my favorite team is…)
could it be: THE BOSTON RED SOX
