I don’t see the point in arguing with folks like Starving Artist. There’s plenty of them in my neighborhood, who are reasonably good people, so I just change the subject. It’s sad, to me, that anyone can believe the past was a better place than today. I’m 42. I have two children, one almost 4 and one 2. While every generation has its challenges, I sure as shit am happy they are growing up now, and not in my youth or in the youth of some idealized past.
But, for some people (usually older white men), their reality truly is that the past was better. I find it sad and hope to hell I don’t become one of those people when I get older. But what’s the use in arguing or pointing and laughing? I know it’s the Pit and all, but, still.
I’d be more worried about kids interacting with assholes that defend child molesters than them listening to shitty pop songs.
I have only briefly looked at the paterno/sandusky thread, but I got the impression that the whole point of the exercise on SA’s part was to illustrate that it could not have happened because, angles or something. So, he might be somewhat safe around children (just him), because, having his head up his ass all the time (can we illustrate that with, say, a cantaloupe?), there is a limit to the amount of damage he can actually do.
I think the likelihood of him having something is far more likely than her.

The best thing I can say about Starving Artist and other such conservatives is that they’ll be dead soon. Old age, being forced to choose between their meds and food, and lack of quality insurance will all combine to phase out the Baby Boomers, and then we can begin actually making this country great again.
