In the wake of the girls getting me a kitten for Father’s Day last year guess what happened this time?
Last week on Sunday about 10PM our neighbor knocked on our door. She says “Is this your kitten? I found her cowering under my car. I can’t keep her…I have two large dogs!”
Those of you who know the Chance’s personally will know our attitude towards animals. We posted some flyers but, on week on, there’s no takers and we’re figuring she’s ours for good.
I’ve elected to name this one ‘Gloria’ after the song by Them. And I’ve got the kids chanting ‘G-L-O-R-I-A…GLOOORIA!’ around the house.
She was truly thin when we got her. She ate like a horse and when the vet looked at her a day or so later she still only weighed 7 ounces. But she’s gaining ground now and beginning to sort out the other cat and the dogs.
So that’s how we’re back to a 2 dog, three cat household. Enjoy.
“Fierce” is the purrfect word to apply to a tortie. Emily is definitely that, and woe betide you if you fail to deliver dinner on time or whatever she wants at the exact instant she wants it! But she is also incredibly affectionate and has a purr like a Mack truck – Papa Tigs has often joked that we should have named her “Diesel” instead. Here’s hoping Gloria is the same!
ETA: Oh, and Emily is also small. 6-1/2 pounds of pure personality. And a VERY demanding voice; we often call her Boss Lady because she sounds like she’s issuing commands every time she opens her mouth. I grew up with Siamese so I’m used to talkative cats, but Emily’s voice is very different. Is Gloria at all vocal yet? I’ve never had a tortie before so I don’t know if the voice is normal or not for them.
She’s vocal enough. Still teeny in voice but she tries. The other cat (seen in the thread last year as a kitten and as an adult in the first picture above) is deaf so he’s not vocal at all. It makes her stand out more.
