*That* word in popular culture

You better be careful there. You don’t want to say, “Honey, you look mighty felching tonight.”

I have to admit, this is a pretty funny line:

On All in the Family, the Bunkers’ preacher was Reverend Felcher. When Archie would pronounce it “Fletcher,” Edith would make a point to correct him, “Felcher.” I wonder if there really is anyone out there with that name or if Norman Lear was springing a naughty joke on a largely naive, unsuspecting public. I wonder if the Jeffersons were originally supposed to be called the Squickers.

I know Norman Lear and talk to him on the phone every once in awhile, but somehow I don’t think I should ask him. He would demand an explanation, and I would probably piss in my pants.

To those who answered the OP, thanks. I only posted it to try to lighten up the pit which was starting to get depressing.

I am sorry, though, that for reasons I can’t understand, it started to get ugly. I KNOW that this is the Pit, and that’s why I usually only lurk rather than writing, but sometimes abusing someone for something you could just as easily let slide is a sign of another type of ignorance. Basically, it’s not nice, and most importantly, it’s NOT FUNNY OR CLEVER. And, dare I say, we could do with some of the love from the new dtl thread here

Darth, you did absolutely nothing wrong, so welcome aboard, and make sure you don’t earn the abuse you had to deal with on your first day.

HenrySpencer.

appreciate that henry, I really do. I was afraid that just because I said something that I “thought” at the time was helpful and I got abused that I was seeing the lesser forms of people in the world. However I saw later that several people recognized what I was trying to do and though I was in error forgave( for lack of a better word) me for my ignorance. again thank you.

Use the search engine here. Type in “felch”. Watch the numerous threads your search brings up. Those who have spent any amount of time lurking and/or posting here are well aware of the definition of the word

Why Riddles and Hammy took after you I do not know; it happens quite often, and is one of my pet peeves about this board. (If I had the guts I’d start a Pit thread about it, but I’m chicken  )

When I first arrived I did it by posting a reply to one of Cecil’s columns without providing a link (what? huh? what the fuck is a link???), was chewed out by someone, and lurked for a long long long time before I posted again. And Coldy’s advice to stay out of the Pit is sound - go hang out in MPSIMS for a while - trust me, you’ll like it

Hey, Henry, everything gets burned in the Pit.
