That's It! PETA Has Finally Gone Bonkers!

Nonono…he was saying it was ok to eat lead.

Their president has been quoted as saying, “It is time we demand an end to the misguided and abusive concept of animal ownership. The first step on this long, but just, road would be ending the concept of pet ownership.”

I can’t believe there are still people out there who didn’t know PETA is nuts. Or maybe ralph124c was the last one and now everybody knows.

Riiight.

Katz doesn’t appear to want to get rid of animals as companions. He appears to want to get rid of the idea that people “own” animals. That may be radical, but it isn’t as radical as the way I initially read your comment (which was that IDA wanted to do away with the concept of animals as companions).

Had my own Fallujah in my garage last weekend:

Me: 9
Mice: 0

Tell the Cultists to come get 'em.

All these summers…a holocaust in my net.

I’ve been researching Dr. Katz and found that this “guardian” thing is his first step in elevating pets’ legal status to that of children.

I don’t know. Around here, the cats are the overlords and I am merely their subject and the bringer of food.

I for one welcome our new cat overlords.

God save us if they develope opposable thumbs

PETA can only get more “bonkers.” They’ve always been “bonkers.”

Then they can lift the toilet seats, Focker.

Why does no one care about the poor diatoms? :smack:

Grrr… bring me a bowl of raw meat, no, screw that,* bring me a live cow; I’ll carve off what I want, and ride the rest home…*

My favorite is the fact that one of the leaders of PETA is a diabetic who requires regular insulin shots (which requires sheep die). When she was questioned about this, she explained that while she was against animal sacrifice in general as a matter of principle, it was ethically okay for her personally because she was dedicating her life to saving other animals.

I wonder if it’s so much nuttiness as it is assholery. They oppose guide dogs for the blind and deaf, claiming these animals are nothing more than slaves, and they want to put a stop to Inuit hunting whales and seals, crying cruelty on them. They don’t seem to care that Inuit have been doing this for thousands of years to survive, and many still hunt today to support their families. The way PETA is coming down on them you’d think arctic peoples were taking animals just for fur and making little Gucci handbags to show off on the runway.

An old Goodies {anyone remember them?} joke: Tim Brooke-Taylor, protesting for animal rights, holds up a placard saying “Kindness Costs Nothing”. Graeme Garden {the mad scientist} ripostes with a placard saying “Cruelty Is More Fun”.

Not anymore - insulin today is produced by genetic engineering. Rather than being refined sheep or pig insulin it’s actually human insulin (it’s even called 'humalin") In many ways a superior product, much less likely to cause allergic reactions or spread disease through inadvertant contamination.

Of course, for the better part of a century it DID require a sheep a day (on average) to keep a diabetic alive, and of course it’s a product of animal experimentation and exploitation. Not to mention the “poor” little bugs with twisted genes churning out protein “alien” to them all merely to serve mankind.

My God, won’t someone think of the bacteria? It makes the baby Jesus cry…

Well it doesn’t seem so obvious to people who call themselves vegetarian because they “only eat fish”. Perhaps a lot of people do need reminded that fish are animals too.

Frankly, I can’t see anything bonkers in an animal rights organisation having a problem with fishing.

And why isn’t this in the Pit?
