That's It! PETA Has Finally Gone Bonkers!

I read in the BOSTON HERALD today, that PETA is launching a campaign, to educate people on the horrors of eating fish! Poor little fishies…apparently, they suffer terribly when hooked or netted! PETA aims to “raise the public’s consciousness” and “let people know of the agony that fish really suffer”.
Bunch of freaking idiots! I wonder when PETOV will emerge (people for the ethical treatment of vegetables). :smack:

PETV has emerged, although I can’t seem to find their website. I think there are several incarnations around.

Meanwhile check out People for the Ethical Treatment of Carnivores.

In regards to the ‘meat’ of your OP, I don’t see why this is the one thing that shows PETA’s nuts. Sounds just like all their other campaigns, and their basic modus operandi: Encourage people not to eat animals by showing them the pain that the animals suffer before being prepared as meat. I don’t see what’s new or altogether crazy about this.

What do you mean, “finally”?

In case anyone misinterprets my last message, I’ll note here that I’m currently eating a chargrilled chicken sandwhich from Chick-Fil-A (and a damn tasty one, at that).

Yeah. PETA is known for it’s whacked-out antics, but this doesn’t seem to be particularly new or radical.

Did I put an apostrophe in “its”? Oh, that is so annoying.

Obligitory mention of the song Carrot Juice is Murder

My sentiments exactly. Your average PETA member is okay but start looking up the ladder, the nuttier they get.

When are people going to start paying attention to this crisis. The human race is nothing but an enslaver of other living creatures on this earth.

We are eating hot peppers on a regular basis that could cause extreme discomfort to the little beings that live in our intestinal tracts!!! Why oh Why do we allow the suffering of these little creatures, is it simply because we cannot see them?

I pray every day for the deliverance of those enslaved yeasts that are forced to reproduce for breweries, bakers, cheesemakers and other traffickers in living creatures. Imagine being forced to reproduce, only so that others can eat your young!!! these so-called artisans and craftspeople must be stopped!!!

And when we cremate bodies, who ever thinks about the flora that will miss their turn to shine. It is disgraceful that we not allow these microbes the right to go through their entire life cycle.

Disgraceful, I tell you.

But…but… : lip trembles : Kurt Cobain said it was ok!

What is wrong with that? They are People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, so what is radical about them being upset about fishes having metal hooks ran through their jaw? Thats not radical, wanting to get rid of pet ownership is radical.

I dream of stalking PETA protests and rallies with a huge grill. I’d set up camp not far away and just fire it up, giving away all of that tasty tasty meat.

I’d call my group MIFT; Meat Is Friggin Tasty.
sigh Someday…

I’m a member of People for Eating Tasty Animals, myself.

Which is a goal of both PETA and IDA.

If Og didn’t want us to eat animals, he wouldn’t have made them taste so good, and there’s plenty of room for Og’s creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

Getting my cheek ripped out by a piece of sharp metal sounds pretty agonizing to me, as does getting pulled out of the air into the water that I cannot breathe. Then there’s the whole being disemboweled and dismembered thing too.

How exactly aren’t they suffering? Sounds like a horrible way to die to me.

For what it’s worth, I’m a carnivore and would never give meat up. Doesn’t mean that PETA doesn’t have a point though.

I think ralph’s point is that PETA is pointing out the obvious.

I’m looking at your link and seeing they have animals up for adoption and are advocating people adopt from animal shelters. What am I missing?

I disagree. They went over the edge years ago.

Further research seems to show that IDA wants a change in terminology from “pet ownership” to “pet guardianship.” That might strike some people as petty semantics, but I think it’s a lot closer to the real relationship of many people and their companion animals.

As for me, I am merely the Regent for my furry overlords.
