I was thinking of Socrates when I typed that.
Really! I was!

Wow, there is a lot of agreement in three categories, but the Leaders are all over the board. Interesting.
Indicates to me that there are clear leaders in all categories except Leaders.
As I’ve said earlier, at this level of influence the leaders really don’t impress me much; I don’t think any of the four we have left come close to the top 5 in the other 3 categories in the mark they’ve made on history.
Inventions. Johann Gutenberg

Science. Albert Einstein
Inventor. James Watt
Leader. Sui Wen Ti

Plato, my only debut choice, looks to be headed for a sweep of the negative kind.
Inventor: James Watt

Only Plato is the new face. Gee whiz, reading the Republic made me wish I was in a cave…

You had a cave?! We had to live in shadows flittin’ 'bout on wall of cave. A cave? Luxury!
Hey, we had to get up a half an hour before we went to bed and pick
gravel off the road with our tongues. And when we got home, our father would
murder us and dance on our graves.
You had a father and a grave? We should all be so lucky.

Leaders. Genghis Khan
Philosophy. Aristotle
Science. Euclid
I was rooting (silently) for Aristotle to get through the whole elimination round without drawing a single vote. Now I don’t think anyone will have that distinction (there was a Newton vote a while ago, and a handful of Gutenbergs this round and I think a couple in earlier rounds as well). I didn’t mention it earlier 'cause I figured someone would vote for him just to be contrary.
Aristotle was certainly very influential, but was it a good influence? Many of his ideas were wrong.
Another famous influential thinker with incorrect ideas was Descartes. Christiaan Huygens (one of the more important scientist/inventors who did not make Hart’s list) once wrote:
Aristotle’s famous Law of the Excluded Middle has sometimes been blamed for the less holistic cognition style of Occident compared with Orient, but this blame seems exaggerated. :dubious:
Round 19 is over!
The losers are:
Category, Name, # of Votes
I, James Watt, 12
L, Sui Wen Ti, 7
P, Plato, 14
S, Euclid, 11
Congratulations to Johann Gutenberg and Aristotle for winning their respective categories!
This round will determine the top scientist and the final two for the Leader category.
