After playing two solid games, Detroit goes and gets themselves absolutely pasted in game six on home ice. As the great philosopher Cathy once opined, Blech.
Dear Coyotes,
You’re doing the lord’s work, keep it up.
Sincerely,
fubbleskag
If the 'Yotes win Game 7 at home, it would be their first series win in 23 years., and only the third series win in franchise history (since 1979). Also, it would be the first time the franchise has beat someone other than Calgary in the playoffs.
bye bye LA
Looks like Vancouver will either get Chicago if they win, or the winner of the Det/Phx series, if Nashville comes back.
As you might guess from my user name, I am a Caps fan.
On NBC yesterday they showed Hossa’s hit and Ovechikin’s hit that got him two game on split screen. No need for consistency in the NHL.
Amen.
The excuse is that Hossa isn’t a repeat offender, but even first timers should get a suspension for that hit… On the plus side, he won’t be able to get away with it again.
Habs-Caps are going seven!
YMMV, but I didn’t think Washington looked all that great tonight, even though they got fifty something shots. I thought the Caps looked awfully scrambly and sloppy.
Man, I wish I could have been in that building tonight.
The Blackhawks win in six, after a crazy 1st period!
And the Bruins are through as well, defeating Buffalo 4-3, and winning the series in six games.
If Washington wins on Wednesday, they’ll play Philadelphia. If Montreal wins, they’ll play Pittsburgh.
The Caps played well, but Halak was a wall and the Canadiens defensive were more solid than usual. At least the series isn’t a walk in the park for the Caps, which was something to be expected after the Habs’ rather lame season.
I’m a Habs fan, and there hasn’t been much joy lately. I think I’d bet on the Caps winning the next game.
I can’t believe #8 Habs are putting up such a fight against #1 Caps.
Sheesh, c’mon guys. You can’t lose the series at home. We’ve come too far for that.
Easy to say after the fact with the full privilege of video review: no doubt in slow motion. Hockey is a very fast-paced game. There will be missed calls and inconsistencies. I’m OK with that because over the course of a season, or even a 7 game series, things usually balance out. I wouldn’t want to be making calls for 60 minutes of game time with 10 players skating at 25 MPH with a puck traveling at 100 MPH.
Number 8? As I pointed out upthread, they’re about number 20, league-wide. I call Caps in a squeaker for game 7.
I’ve never been been known to call a game correctly. Can’t wait for tomorrow.
Yes, but the complaint is that Ovechkin got suspended and Hossa didn’t. Colin Campbell had the benefit of slow motion.
Good point. :smack:
Ha!
I just read this and everyone within earshot of my office is wondering WTF I am laughing at…
:D:D:D
Exactly. When I saw the Ovie hit during the broadcast, I initially thought he’d get several games.
You have two guys skating directly at one another and one tries to move at the last second, chances are good that there will be knee-on-knee contact. The player who initiates the hit gets the penalty, fair enough. The problem is that he also gets the rep as a repeat offender. And, hockey rules have a time limit, acknowledging that you shouldn’t count an offense from the distant past. Ovie had passed the limit (by one game), still that was cited as a reason for his suspension. I can even buy it. I just don’t think there is any claim for consistency in supplemental discipline.
In game, speed of play calls I consider to just be part of the game, no different than a bad bounce of the puck.
I’ll be at Verizon Center for game seven. I’ll pull for the eastern conference team in the finals, even if it is Pittsburgh but I hope it will be Caps.
Damn. Phoenix has just collapsed tonight, and I mean that literally. They spent much of the first period collapsing at the front of their net to keep shots from getting in. As a result, they aren’t pressuring Detroit at all. The Red Wings have been able to pass at will. Where’s the team that forced this to a game seven?
