The 2010 US Election forum

Asking the inevitable here …

Now that the election is over, what will happen to the forum? Will it stay up for all eternity (in order to preserve the posts - I think deleting all the posts would be the worst thing to do and cause the most ire) to be joined in 2 years by the “2012 US Election” forum, followed in 2 years by the “2014 US Election” forum, etc. etc. ad nauseum until the forums are majority politics?

Doesn’t really matter much to me, I think I haven’t so much as poked my head in once or twice, but it’s a question worth asking.

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. I think the bottom line was that there might be a new forum and, by popular demand, it would be devoted to poop questions and politics.

I think they will just change the name in 2012.

That could be awkward if 2010 threads get bumped. Maybe it should just be called “U.S. Elections”.

Mods: Is there any reason to limit it to US Elections? I live in Indiana - I could honestly care less about UK/Russian/Indian/etc. elections - but wouldn’t it save a heap of trouble to keep it the same? Just name it “Politics” or something similar (but catchy)? The Canucks sometimes have elections that actually have a small amount of influence on the center of the world, why not let them feel like they’re part of something bigger? Sure, the UK has kickass parliament discussions - they can play with us as well.

The posts are not going to be deleted. We don’t do that here. The forum will either be merged into Great Debates or it will continue to exist on its own under a revised name. There’s a little bit of discussion about this within the Elections Forum as well.

It was organized this way because most SDMB posters are in the U.S. and there are way more threads about elections in the U.S. than in any other country. I don’t have a real preference one way or the other.
