I dunno. I don’t think political wanna be leaders often go to religious leaders who say any incendiary tidbids.
No. jsgoddess commented that Obama ran a “shockingly good” campaign, which by any independent analysis he did. You then went off on a rant about Rev. Wright, which had zero to do with the Obama campaign. You then created a strawman jsgoddess who would happily vote for a kkk leader or the Taliban. That is creating an argument followed by pretending win it, my friend.
Your flaw in your argument is that “Rev Wright had zero to do with the Obama campaign” and then your argument goes way out of kilter because you built your house with shoddy material.
WHY does a mixed race candidate trying to pass for black bring his black family to hear a raving racist lunatic every Sunday and then consider this nut his spiritual leader? WHY does this have zero to do with his campaign?
It has plenty to do with his campaign.
Ok, now you tell me. What would have happened say if John Kerry/Al Gore/Bill Clinton (brainless as he is)/Mike Dukakis/Walter Mondale/Jimmy Carter etc and family were revealed to belong to a church where the pastor gave anti black incendiary speeches and one of these fully Caucasian gentlemen embraced the racist and called him his spiritual leader?
Your answer please.

Yup.
What they mean is that it had nothing to do with the running of his campaign. It was an issue that affected his campaign, but much like Clinton’s womanizing or Cheney and Haliburton it had nothing to do with the skill and professionalism with which the campaign was run. Part of having a great campaign is deflecting those problems from your past, which almost all candidates have.
You mean a pastor who rails against the brutal oppression of white folks by the black power structure? I don’t personally know any black people that stupid or ignorant. They are well versed in the historical facts of the situation.
Oh, wait, that’s one of those equivalence thingys, isn’t it? Kind of “put the shoe on the other foot” argument. But if you are putting the shoe on the other foot, then you either had them on the wrong feet to begin with, or are just about to. Either way, a poor fit.
Riv1, please restrict comments in this thread to the topic of the 2016 Democratic candidates for President. Discussions of past candidates - for whatever reason - really belong in their own thread. Please feel free to start one. I’m sure it would be welcome.
And thanks for joining the Straight Dope Message Board. I hope you enjoy your stay and return for years to come.
Less than one day here and I’m already having problems with moderators. Outspoken guys who speak their mind even though they think independent of the general tenor of the board, don’t seem to do well on forums although I have lots to add and can give good discussion here.
Ah well, I hope your message was also meant for the others who argued with me and I hope you will clarify that to those members.
Glad to. It applies to all. Heck, if I went back in the thread I’d probably find a few more times I’ve had to say such things.
And to clarify, you’re not having trouble. We’re all glad to see you here. But experience has led me to believe that threads in Elections will go off the rails quickly if not kept on focus.
As I said, feel free to start threads. They’ll be welcome.
For Democratic Game of Thrones fans: https://www.demstore.com/winter-is-coming--bumper-sticker--375-x-15_p_1296.html
When I click on that link, the tab in my browser is labeled “Hilary bumper”. smh.
I just clicked on it again and got the one I intended. If it still doesn’t work for you, click on the “Bumper Stickers” button and you should easily find the GOT-related one.
No, I got the right link, but the Democratic Party apparently is all-in for Hillary. Why is a non-candidate Democratic bumper sticker a Hillary sticker and not a Bernie sticker?
And how is “Winter is Coming” a Democratic message, anyway? It sounds more like something you’d hear from a climate-change denialist.
I took it more as a “prepare for the worst, vote for the best” warning about American politics.
Or a Christmas carol.
Winter is coming
The goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man’s hat . . .
I was really excited about a potential Jim Webb run, but apparently he’s a Southern apologist. So yeah, not happening.
But gosh. Slavery is just so complicated! IT’S SO COMPLICATED!
