The 2016 Democratic Candidates

Is Jim Webb running for the Tea Party nomination?

There’s already a DINO in this race!!! </puritypony>

Its a bit overblown but the Senator has a point-for a lot of “progressives”, the last acceptable bigotry is against Southern working-class whites.

And Christians. Don’t forget Christians. And men. Don’t forget men. And all of the other groups who claim to be victims of “the last acceptable bigotry.” There are a lot, which is weird. I guess they’re all tied for last.

I figured Webb’s message would piss off a lot of progressives, but if they want working class white votes, they need to talk more like him. The thing about democracy is that you can believe people are wrong, but you still have to take their views seriously if there are enough of them. And there are enough of them.

Yes, I’m sure that’s why certain progressives never use terms like “subhuman” or “inbred” to prefer to white working-class Southerners even as they denounce terms like “thugs” or “gangstas” applied to blacks.

Progressives have this weird conceit that they can attack ethnic and cultural groups if they are the groups with the advantages, and assume that enough of the more “enlightened” members of the groups will feel they deserve it and happily vote for them.

That would explain why progressives today are in their weakest position since before WWII. Which brings into play their other conceit: that controlling the White House means they are “winning” somehow.

So, Obama didn’t win the White House, he just stubbornly refused to admit his total defeat?

There are thousands of offices in the country. THe Democrats won that one, but lost a pretty big majority of the rest. The Republicans almost control enough states to change the Constitution if they wanted to.

Ah! Explains their calm and easy-going, unruffled demeanor. Like Sheriff Andy Taylor after he kicked meth.

Since 2008, the Democratic party has lost “11 governorships, 13 U.S. Senate seats, 69 House seats, and 913 state legislative seats and 30 state legislative chambers.”

Its an opinion piece about executive power and treaty negotiations. And Rick Lowry? that’s what you got?

Just citing the numbers about how much Democrats have lost in the last eight years. Probably the most unsuccessful eight years a party has ever had, yet they think everything is peachy.

That is not even remotely the case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_1928

I have trouble believing that there are any significantly huge amount of voters that are both amenable to apologia for Southern racism and to supporting a Democratic candidate – it would need to be large enough to swallow up the loss in turnout and votes from minorities and whites that aren’t okay with this crap, and I don’t think it’s even close.

Unless you count Democratic accomplishments like health care, gay rights, environmental progress, etc…

I don’t think it’s accurate to call Webb an apologist for southern racism, anymore than it’s accurate to call Democrats hostile to white voters.

Health care- passed when Democrats won a historic victory. It was also the proximate cause of their losses.

Gay rights- Democrats didn’t do much of anything but follow public opinion. They did not lead, they cowered, then acted like they were triumphant when the public gave them permission. This is what passes for courage to Democrats.

Environmental progress- oh, did the Earth cool in the last seven years?

I wouldn’t have thought so too until he tried to minimize the symbolism of displaying the Confederate battle flag.

I don’t believe you. I don’t believe that Republicans and the tea party would have been any less opposed to Obama had the ACA not happened.

It’s not courage – it’s just much, much better than the Republicans’ stance, and the accomplishments are partially due to Democratic support for gay rights (including the President’s late shift).

Policy, obviously. Progress was made in environmental policy, even if much progress remains.
