The 2016 Republican candidates

I correct myself then: most candidates have not said they would abrogate the treaty.

Five are on record as saying they would out of 17.

No, that’s on Kasich.

It is not everyone’s responsibility to go along with the President on a deal he negotiated without their input. Are universities also obligated to drop their sanctions and divestment campaigns?

The Iran deal covers only FEDERAL, NUCLEAR sanctions. State sanctions are not part of the deal. Private sanctions are not part of the deal. Federal terrorism sanctions are not part of the deal. There is no way that John Kerry did not make the Iranian team aware of exactly what sanctions the deal covered. If Iran finks, it’s because they wanted to and were looking for a pretext.

If the deal depends on states cooperating, then the administration was wasting their time, and that’s foreign policy malpractice.

I’ll give you Kasich, even though his position is clearly opposed to the deal. And by “on Kasich” I mean he personally supports continuing sanctions regardless of the treaty.

It’s not a treaty, thus is not US law. It is strictly an agreement between the President and the government of Iran. It’s called an executive agreement. It doesn’t bind Congress, much less the states. And all Republicans oppose the deal, I don’t dispute that. But in January 2017, the deal will have been in effect for over a year. If it’s working, it would be stupid to abrogate it. The right approach is to enforce the deal, and enforce it good and hard.

“Mr. President! Wonderful news! adaher is on board!”

So who does that leave for you?

AFAIAC, it doesn’t matter what the candidates think if they’re down in the white noise. It’s the ones who still have a chance that count. So the fact that Perry says he’d rip up the deal on Day 1 doesn’t matter to me, but that Rubio says the same thing does.

So: Rubio and Walker would rip it up; Trump and Bush are against it, but would enforce it if elected.

Cruz:

He doesn’t say he’s going to tear up the treaty on Day 1, but if he believes his own rhetoric, how can he do anything else?

Carson:

How can you possibly live with a deal that puts the whole country in jeopardy?

Shrubby did it.

Two major differences between that treaty and the Iran agreement:

  1. Bush didn’t do that right after taking office, and he didn’t do it as an anti-Russia move. It was part of his post-9/11 policy agenda that we needed nuke defenses against rogue states.

  2. The treaty had a provision for backing out and Bush complied with it.

The Iran agreement has a very specific purpose, and as long as it accomplishes that purpose there’s no rationale for pulling out of it.

Official Ted Cruz campaign poster on the Ted Cruz website, I shit you not.

I feel sick to my stomach after seeing that poster.

Can’t be. That *has *to be a false-flag site.

I doubt it. He isn’t nearly as buff.

The guy who made Ted Cruz into a ripped, tattooed smoker.

Quit hogging the brain bleach.

Juckabee’s team cross-blocks Teddy from the press at u* u**** u*'s release-from-jail rally. Nothing more fun than factional infighting.

A look at the current state of the Walker campaign.

Due to Cruz’s unauthorized appropriation of Winston Churchill’s image, Her Majesty’s Government today announced that it will wage its third war against us if he is elected.

Wow - Rick Perry is the first out of the GOP race. Low-ranked pols get in their licks: http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/11/politics/rick-perry-2016-campaign-suspended/index.html
