The 2026 edition of the SDMB Postcard exchange - new management, old rules

I’m glad!

OK, it’s 10am AEST Monday 8th June on the King’s Birthday Holiday. Of course #3 Chuck is November born, but for the sake of the pageantry since 1748 the Poms celebrate the monarchs day in high summer. Australia adopted the holiday in 1788 under Governor Phillip. Not all Australian celebrate His Maj’s birthday today. That’s not a republican snub, no Australian will give up a long weekend but the cane toads and sand gropers take theirs later in the year. The monarch’s birthday holiday traditionally marks the start of the Australian ski season. Toads and gropers don’t get snow. It’s a still, blue, cloudless, glorious winter day here in Sydney. A tad cool @ 14C (58F).

Anyhoo, that means that the notional deadline for the exchange has now passed. If RL, memory or opportunity has conspired against you and your pledge remains pending, I certainly won’t be punctilious. Get them in as soon as you can please.

I’m actually a little torn over whether I should send out a PM reminder.

The current 2026 PCE statistics are 31 participants, in 11 groups of 4 hence 132 cards (if the numbers seem wonky, some players have doubled-up) with 105 cards reported as being sent and 40 reported as received to date.
Which, if I have read the thread right are tabulated below.

Thank you to all the participants, but especially the munificent.

“Keep those cards and letters rolling in”. :upside_down_face:

Group09 & Group10 have only players who doubled up.

I have received nifty postcards from @blondebear (with bonus historic California souvenir views packet!) and @needscoffee!

And I have mailed all my postcards today.

I got a cool card about sawfish from @Allecher on Friday. This may help me next time I go to Pub Trivia Night.

I got one from @liirogue some time ago and I think I reported it here. Maybe not?

I’m an aging antipodean just trying to manage something as antediluvian as a postcard exchange in the internet age and keep up with you smart, young connected persons … cut me some slack with ya???

(Group07 row#3, col#4)

Me?

(who among other things has no clue why Discourse just mangled the original rest of this post in the way that it did. I’m not even going to try to fix it.)

Post #153, I acknowledged receipt of @Karen_Lingel 's postcard (though without the @ notation, as I had responded to her post) - so feel free to add her to my received row.

I think Group03 might have full connectivity, save for the transatlantic postcards which I’m sure will be showing up any time now…

Just as clarification; in my table the column names show Received BY, not Received from.

I got a card postmarked Nashville, but the card came from NY (according to the blurb) and it was about the Bill Of Rights. It wasn’t signed, but I am assuming that it is another one from @Mollie_Magill.

Just received a lovely lenticular printed card from @needscoffee showing
some Northern Aurora Borealis Lights ! Thanks NeedsCoffee !

I didn’t sign it? Sorry about that.

Way cool, I got a postcard from York. Been there twice because of the train museum, but the last time was more than a decade ago. Thank you @Teuton

I got two today: one from @RealityChuck and one from @SuntanLotion . Thanks to you both!

Got one from @SuntanLotion as well. Thanks!

You are kind. Better ones coming in near future.

Another card received from @romansperson , with a cartoon of “Dog Speed Dating.”

I have received a serene and starry postcard from @Ulf_the_Unwashed! Thanks, UtU!

Big day for the mailbox way down here in Sydney with cards aplenty.
@liirogue inviting me to tour on Route66;
@needscoffee frankly showing off with 3D images of the Aurora Borealis,
@silenus offering a tourism package of Londinium so he can finance a better pen and
@blondebear showing Elvis did eat comfort food apart from the notorious Fools Gold Loaf
plus a bonus selection of Hollywood images.

Thank you all.
chuffed. chuffed.

I forgot to mention a funny coincidence: all of @JaneDoe42’s cards were West Virginia-themed, and two hours after I had received them I went on the road. Guess what song was playing on the radio?

“Country Roads” by John Denver.
