Just got another card from @Mollie_Magill, this one of the McGavock/CSA Cemetery in Franklin, Tennessee. Very somber memory of a very bloody battle-1500 graves on two acres of land.
The Battle of Franklin was a bloodbath. My church was a field hospital. You can still see scars on the wooden columns inside.
Today’s weather is a good example of a day in Junerary. Gray and rainy, despite the forecast for sun.
But my mailbox was quite colorful with a postcard with a Mandrill from @Teuton and a card with Australian birds from @penultima_thule (I supposed I could write colourful in their honor).

A card arrived from Australia, or perhaps the Australian Antarctic Territory…the card pictures small rocks covered with plant life, and the message “Non-rolling rocks do gather interesting moss/lichens.” Thank you, @penultima_thule !!
In the mail today, a “fun facts” card from @Allecher…the fun fact being about a card that took 83 years to be delivered. Glad this one didn’t take that long…thanks!
I received an old* card from @thorny_locust of trees and a lake in Upstate New York – very reminiscent of my current home state of Wisconsin.
(*Like the ones I sent out, it dates from around the 1970s.)
Nice coincidence! Today I came in for a break from planting in a very hot field to find a very cooling card of a glacier in Alaska from @JKellyMap, who doesn’t live there but has visited that glacier. Good timing!

Two new cards arrived today. One from @SunUp, with the snow-covered Mogollon Rim in Arizona, with pine trees in the foreground. I wasn’t aware that Arizona could look like this, I imagined it to be endless deserts.
The other was from our respected game host, @penultima_thule, the first mail I ever got from Australia. And guess what’s on the card? A smiling kangaroo of course! I was surprised that this card made it so fast half around the globe.

Which means I have cards from seven different dopers, so I’m doing very well.
Combine that with the six which have been received and I’m doing extremely well.
Must be a lot of pent-up benevolence in this years exchange. 
Excellent cartoon card from @Reeses_Monkey in PA may have arrived several days ago, was shyly lurking in bottom of mailbox.
In the interest of Doperesque accuracy, that was no pig, but a javelina or collared peccary - the similarity of their snouts means they are often mistaken for swine. They range all over the US southwest and can live in biomes ranging from low deserts to ponderosa pine forests - and even human-dominant suburbs.

I received a neat postcard from @melodyharmonius of Clingmans [sic] Dome, the highest peak in the Great Smoky National Park in North Carolina. Its name was restored to the Cherokee “Kuwohi” a couple years ago, as Clingmans was a Confederate Brigadier General. Don’t let Trump know, or it may go the way of Denali!
I got a Tolkien postcard from @Teuton today! I am confused about how a dragon could be “eyeing” an invisible Hobbit, but I am not familiar with the books. Thanks, T!
